IDF soldiers who entered the Ramallah offices of Palestinian telecommunications company Planet on Monday disconnected Ramallah, Gaza and East Jerusalem from the Internet, Palestinian sources told the Itim news agency.
"The IDF took over an office building where six Planet employees were apparently staying," the Palestinian non-governmental organization Miftah said in a statement. "Explosions were heard, and the six's whereabouts were not ascertained," the statement continued. Miftah is headed by Palestinian legislator Dr. Hanan Ashrawi.
The meaning of diconnecting these Palestinian cities from the Internet would be an irreparable hampering of Palestinian higher education facilities' attempts to continue normal schooling despite the curfews placed on them, the statement read.
"This last escalation is another attempt to isolate the Palestinians from the outside world, and it robs us of the only means of international communication we have in these hard times," the statement read.
IDF Spokesman told Itim that six Planet employees who were in the Ramallah building were indeed arrested during the night, and that "since there are no workers there, there is no one to operate the Internet."
Learn-at-home bombmaking?
Looks like they are irritated that they can't email their flag burning and rock throwing schedule to the press.
