Im hoping that we build a monument to the peaceful religion of Islam. Based on what I hear from the press this is the biggest thing we should take from this horror.

They should use Frank Lloyd Wright's plans for the Mile high tower.

I still like that plan that you showed in the photo. That came out shortly after 911 and is still my favorite.

Sixty stories just isn't going to cut it.
I am in total dread of seeing these plans.

Rebuild the towers, put the memorial right on top , and then a big cross just to piss off the evil moslems that were the cause.

If only we had the courage to do it.

They should use Frank Lloyd Wright's plans for the Mile high tower.Any pics of that anywhere? A mile-high would seem to strain architectural physics (but Wright was known to ignore physics anyway so... :-)

I have a good friend who is working on the restoration of Falling Water. They have a ways to go.

I'm really getting weary of hearing about the "demands" of the victims' families. Some of them are being a little over the edge on this issue and should maybe take a few deep breaths and think about what they are saying.
This isn't "sacred ground" any more than is the island of Oahu. There is a respectable and appropriate memorial to honor those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, but it doesn't include the entire area of the attack.

Daaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmnnnnnnn...
What's that thing on the top of it? Looks like something to impale Godzilla on.

But where do we put the Compact Oxygen/Iodine Laser batteries to cover all axes of approach?
And we need to put a bungee-jumping platform at the top. YEEE-HAWW!

Officials familiar with the proposals said that all six would replace the 11 million square feet of office and retail space lost in the Sept. 11 attack with a cluster of buildings much shorter than the 110-story twin towers. Too bad. The barbarians have achieved their purpose. They've cowed us into renouncing reaching for the light. In such actions is the cowardice of a people revealed.

Every now and then I dream about Falling Water. In the dream it's my house and I'm just going about my business as though that were nothing unusual.

Mile High Cantilevered Skyscraper (unbuilt) - d. 1956 Specifically designed to exist in Chicago Illinois as both a monument and a proud product to and of the people of Chicago and the state of Illinois. A very daring scheme, it attempts to create a skyscraper of immense size created by cantilevering the building from the ground into the air. It is a rotation of normal cantilever design, which usually exists when something is placed horizontally away from structure, thereby creating a moment about one end of the slab as the other is not supported. Here, Wright alters this mentality by creating a building so large, that is in essence cantilevering from the ground which acts as its support and resistor against the moment created by the immense shaft of the building. Its design decreased in thickness as the building grew upward, finally finishing at the pinnacle with a spire. Such a fascinating idea demonstrates Wright's interest in the importance of height and prominance in the creation of large commercial structures in the modern area. Not to be outdone by others, he strove to create a building larger then any other had even dreamed of. Its sheer height would have proclaimed him first among architects, and the recipient city, Chicago, the world's best.
