I take it you have not read all the recent stories about cameras that were "accidently" misprogrammed to ticket people who were not running red lights.

I’d rather spend an hour in traffic court pointing out the lack of recent calibration than have another friend go through the agony of an accident like that.

There are two intersections behind my home and we used to have at least one accident a week at one or the other. It was almost universally due to people stretching lights. The streets dept. tried everything to stop this, new traffic lights, 7 am to 6 pm crossing guards, a white strobe behind the red, changing light timing, even the re-scaping of both corners. Nothing worked. Finally, the cameras were installed and after a month or two we saw our last accident. That was about six months ago.

Based on that, I’d say they work.

While I sympathize with your friends accident, having had to argue in court against a fraudulent ticket...the State AUTOMATICALLY assumes the radar is correct and accurate...it is up to you BEFORE arriving at the Court, to have the evidence to disprove the radar...you CANNOT try to get this info at time of hearing, or they toss your a$$ and find against you..

Just another example of how the State has rigged trials against the populace!

The Safety Myth: Photo-radar cameras are designed to catch speeders and save lives. Only, there's not much evidence that the speed limit is any safer.

Red-light cameras actually cause an increase in rear-end accidents. The pro-camera forces know this and are trying to keep you from seeing the data.

Nope, not everything...how about, say, going out on a limb here and maybe this is just a wild@ssed idea, but...how about actual police enforcement?? The police are much more likely to be not break down and give lawabiders tickets, and you can fight them in court. You can't fight the omniscient traffic camera.

The guy is right, this is done for revenue enhancement. If the problem was really that bad they'd have actual cops at these intersections. Drunk driving is more of a problem.

The cameras are not going to prevent accidents just like gun laws don't prevent crime. However, these traffic cameras will make the general populace more accepting of even greater limitations on their privacy and liberty.
