I don't much care for the cameras, but I can't really get all excited about it because I can't seem to put this issue into the context of liberty vs totalitarianism. The only things these cameras are good for is catching people committing violations of the law and collecting fines for the commission of such crimes.

Red light cameras are just the start. Soon we will be like London where every square inch of the city is under CC surveillance.

When I was in London last August, the "Real IRA" as they called themselves blew up a car bomb down the street from the bar we were at. When we got back to our hotel the news was running tape from the CC cameras of the explosion.

Is a 'society under surveillance' what we want?

They also have "speeding cameras" on the highways there. The driver we used while we were there kept complaining about them. Like red light cameras they take a photo. But it also records your speed at the time and sends you a speeding ticket.

That is what will follow the red light cameras and then the surveillance cameras on light poles will come shortly after.
