San Francisco Makes Olympic Bid For 2012
Bay Area Shows Off Venues, Technology For USOC
POSTED: 11:16 a.m. PDT July 14, 2002
SAN FRANCISCO -- Great weather, top-notch sports venues and cutting-edge technology will be the focus of a visit by the U.S. Olympic Committee to San Francisco beginning Sunday.
The Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee said the Bay Area has the best chance of competing internationally for the coveted 2012 Olympic host bid.
Three other U.S. cities--New York, Washington and Houston--are vying for the honor. Olympic committee officials have already visited them.
Officials will receive i-PAQ personal digital assistants and will then be taken for a fast-paced tour of the Bay Area.
The games could bring about $7.4 billion to the region.
The committee will pick the U.S. city for international consideration in November.
The International Olympic Committee won't decide on a host city until July 2005.

San Francisco Makes Olympic Bid For 2012Just seeing the words "pole vault" was enough to make them jump at the chance.

Makes me shudder thinking about some of the parades they would have and the floats. Crack and Field events, sh-t putting, schlong jump, Synchronized shrieking and maybe a hairdressing medal.

If its going to be a farse, I'd like a band to play.

HAHA.
This is nice and all, but Houston has already started tearing up the medical district strictly for the reason of getting set up for the summer olympics.

Heck I vote for Houston.

Well the decorating and team uniforms will be color coordinated and fashionable.

If the Olympics is in SF it'll just be a little harder to tell the men's teams from the women's teams.

Things got a little messy at the start of the marathon:

Houston has the best bet of all the American cities competing, but I am skeptical about whether the committee will ever pick an American city again. There were rumors after the 2002 Winter Olympics that it would be a long time until they pick a US city again, remember that the US investigates accusations of bribery and other improprieties during the selection process, while other countries don't seem to care.
