New York had this system in place for 5 years before New Jersey - on a Turnpike 10x New Jersey's. Now they claim they are losing money because they have too many customers. Utter incompetence.
And let's not forget the attempt to enforce 5 MpH speed limits at the EZPass booths. I was trying to get Carl Lewis (born in NJ) to violate this on foot till they backed off.

Yeah, I thought the whole idea was to make using EZ-Pass an easier and cheaper option than paying tolls in cash. Now McGreedy wants to take away the Parkway discount, and charge a surcharge? Geez, who thought New York would actually run something competently, at least compared to Jersey!

Just to get this complicated matter straight: NJ is loosing money on EZ-Pass as there are too many customers as so they have to raise the price they check EZ-Pass people, right?
By extension they must be loosing a ton on the human staffed toll lanes then. Also by extension it must be in the state's best interest to rip down the toll booths. Not surprisingly I don't see this source of non-counted funds to dry up any time soon.
