It can. But the "official route" if you come from the Parkway (er, um, I-376) takes you over the Rankin Bridge, which is further upriver."
Beg to differ..it depends on whether you live east of Edgewood or not! Went to Kennywood today, and came back the way you describe (that stupid turn-off onto to the Rankin bridge is still there, 20 some years after my mother had a minor wreck when she realized at the last minute she was making a mistake.)
But en route, we went over the dilapidated, newly-named GRAYS bridge, right past where the BUY-WISE used to be.
Foreverfree, you don't know what you missed. And believe me when I say I mean that in EVERY sense of the word.
I was there last Mon. and Tues. My wife grew up there. It is pretty dead compared to the 'old days'.
The Catholic school she attended just closed for lack of children.
It's sad.
I do believe you, glorygirl. Which is part of the reason (curiosity is another) why I've purchased a book called Pittsburgh Sports: Stories from the Steel City, edited by Randy Roberts. Haven't got around to cracking it open yet. Hope I bought something good.

Gee Bees didn't make it out of the 80s, IIRC. They were handicapped by having union workers and couldn't compete with other department stores without. I am sure there are other reasons as well.

I don't think BUY-WISE made it out of the 70's.
