The Waterloo of Neoliberalism (Das Waterloo des Neoliberalismus) HYPERBARF ALERT
Die Welt ^ | 07/11/2000 | Oskar Lafontaine

Posted on 07/11/2002 11:21:44 AM PDT by pierrem15

(Excerpt only: rest of rant in German at link).

"Der internationale Strafgerichtshof sollte nicht nur Terroristen, sondern auch Wirtschaftskriminielle zur Verantwortung ziehen."

The Internationational Criminal Court should hold to answer not only terrorists, but also economic criminals."

Basically, Lafontaine is predicting the end of captitalism, and all the old hoary Stalinist cliches come out. The CEO of Oracle is singled out for pocketing $750 million.

I wonder if Ellison is supporting the ICC?

I don't read Die Welt much anymore, and Lafontaine's Narrheit typifies why. The continentals still don't understand capitalism, I suspect they never have: none of them have read Adam Smith or even their own von Hayek or von Mieses, or Marshall or Friedman or Becker or .... the list is too long. They know a little Keynes, perhaps, some Hicks and the rest is Marxist or socialist nonsense. Lumpenintellektuelen all.

I was simply amazed by the vintage Pravda-like rhetric. I think Mr. Lafontaine missed his rabies booster this year.

IMHO, the real kicker is the fact that he is calling on the ICC to prosecute "economic crimes."

The ICC hasn't even sat in session yet & the Eurinals are already foaming at the mouth about indicting Americans for anything they don't like. Expect "cultural pollution" and "environmental degradation" to added quickly to the list of indictable offenses.

You can expect a parade of indictments against Americans in the next 2 years.

Like the rump states of Greece after Cannae, these squabbling Euro-fiefdoms continue to bear the names of their ancestors, with absolutely none of the talents and vision that those names once represented.

They are irrelevant now, and can only become more irrelevant in the future.

expect hate crimes to be added on that list. Next will be illegal speech. Pretty soon they will add thought crimes as well.
