Malkin, the daughter of Filipino immigrants, was born in Philadelphia in 1970 and raised in southern New Jersey. She is a graduate of Oberlin College. She lives with her husband and daughter in Maryland.

She used to write for one of the two Seattle papers here (either the PI or the Times) and then had some sort of disagreement. She's moved on to a more national spotlight now. I was shocked, shocked, to see her columns in our local papers which are almost entirely devoid of intelligent content. Perhaps that's why she moved on ;)
