GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Reuters) - A group of white supremacists said Wednesday its members and sympathizers would march through this Georgia town this weekend to protest an influx of Hispanic immigrants in the area.
The National Alliance, a West Virginia-based group that advocates the establishment of all-white "living areas" in the United States and other Western nations, said the march on Saturday would focus attention on the links between illegal immigration and gang-related crime in the Gainesville area.
About 30 percent of Gainesville's population of 27,242 is Hispanic, according to the 2000 Census. Racial tensions in the town, located about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, have risen in the past year after a number of drug-related crimes blamed on Mexican gangs.
"Gainesville has been swamped with uncontrolled immigration and we told them last year that they were going to have problems with gangs," said Chester Doles, a coordinator for the National Alliance in Lumpkin County, north of Gainesville.
Doles added that the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States had fueled greater interest in the group's anti-immigration message and activities. "The local citizens are responding more than last year," Doles said.
The march is due to begin at 8 a.m. EDT on Saturday and is expected to last about an hour. Local law enforcement authorities and community leaders are telling residents to stay at home during the rally.
We can't do so with a welfare state. Socialism is incompatible with immigration.
While I agree that immigration and socialism are at odds, I do not believe that unchecked immigration is good, regardless if we have a socialist system or not. With widescale, unlimited, and unchecked immigration, you have pressures placed on the culture, schools, environment, voting booth, social group politics, assimilation, etc.
Secondly, I doubt that you would want America becoming some resemblence of the United Nations, because that is what is going to happen if widescale, unchecked immigration is going to lead us. Down the path of multiculturalism, bickering, group politics, more socialism, loss of freedoms, more taxes, etc.
Multi-culturalism is a disease of the decadent upper middle class. Most poor immigrants know a good thing when they see it and want to assimilate.
No, multiculturalism is a mindset and it running rampant within all classes. Sure, much of the very wealthy have promoted it, but it is not only the rich who buy it. Many of the newcomers believe that it is okay to remain seperate and not assimilate, for we're a chamber pot. They actually think that it is what America is about.
Like I said, I would like immigration reduced to 75,000 per year. This, of course, after a ten, possibly twenty, year immigration moratorium.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door
Wow, I haven't heard that one before, the Emma Lazarus poem. It shows the true sign of a liberal. In case you hadn't noticed, the U.S., in its history, has slowed and curtailed immigration after high numbers. Why can't we do the same now? It's obvious that immigration, as it now stands, may be a recipe for future problems. It's alreay happening.
Furthermore, I think that for the best interests of the country that we should admit at least an 80% majority of immigrants from the western world. (Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan
God no. Those people are the worst Socialists the world has to offer. The pathetic dregs of a collapsed culture.
I'd much rather have the Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolians, etc. Those people are some most dynamic, resourceful folks on earth.
So let me get this right. You would rather our immigration come from non-western countries, of which assimilation into the mainstream would probably never be totally accomplished, for group politics, social representation, etc. will constantly be promoted. Furthermore, when taking into account history, of which people of different cultures have witnessed many problems living side by side, you think it is okay to toy with this? I'm sorry, but, in my opinion, immigration must be restricted to 75,000 per year, and it must be from western countries. It is in the best interests in the LONG TERM (for all you short term thinkers)for America.
Furthermore, you're berating Europe (though I agree some of the things are there are terrible), but you're acting as though China is a model society? Hello, forced government slaughter of the unborn. A communist system, no representation. This is a model society? Meanwhile, you know that they're probably never going to assimilate totally into the mainstream, as long as there are high numbers of non-western immigration. You're more likely to see balkanized fragments, etc. Again, a natural outcome based on preference and comfort.
For America's sake, let's knock out the political correctness and think rationally.
The schools are socialist. Enviromental managment is currently socialist, only citizens should be able to vote and then only in the context of a Constitutional Republic not a Socialist Democracy. Problem solved.

I challenge you to go to China or Nicaragua or Mongolia and find someone who espouses multi-culturalism. It ain't happening.

With the exception of the United States, most Western countries are Marxist.

Have you ever been to China? The government is pure evil but the average person is far, far more capitalistic and enterprising than the average American. Many Americans and most Europeans still believe in Socialism; they sit with blank expressions on their faces waiting for marching orders. The Chinese have been vaccinated. They know in no uncertain terms that state worship doesn't work. The average Republican is a Socialist compared to the average Chinese.
I suggest you stop reading Pat B. and go take a look at the world for yourself and form your own impressions.
Well-stated post, by the way.
Oh go ahead, so long as you don't mind my posting all the laws that the southern states had to make sure that free blacks didn't settle there, or to make sure that such a thing as a free black didn't occure in the first place.
...your ancestors' imperialist, bigoted, racist motives.
There's a case of the pot calling the kettle black. IMHO, of course.
As soon as you can defend your side let me know and we'll have a go at it.
BTW, when you are in polite company in Gainesville, the subject of James Longstreet may arise. It is best for an outsider not to become involved in any discussions concerning that great commander and patriot.
