CBS Market Watch "Big Charts" Web Site ^ | 7/10/2002 | MarketWatch.com

Posted on 07/10/2002 11:04:03 AM PDT by SierraWasp

12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

Larry isn't an accountant, he is a DAMN lawyer for God's sake. Give the boy a break. Of course he doesn't know what he is talking about in this field. I'm the only lawyer I know that is reasonably facile with accounting, and that is due to certain educational detours I took.

You don't think the public has the right to know who Larry's biggest contributors are?

He has made it his life's work to attack public officials.

Don't you want to know if Larry's being funded by some unscrupulous means, such as Hillary! to further her agenda for her 2004 Presidential bid?

Look at the facts just once. Read the rest of this post and then think about it before automatically defending Larry.

EVERY single dem, with the exception of Gore, that has spoken of a desire to run for President in 2004 has had some scandalous piece of dirt brought to light. Either that, or the liberal media that fawns over Hillary has done their best to make them look stupid. When else would you see Russert pound on a dem, but for the exception of Edwards. Then they all had to opine on what a poor job he did of it.

Funny isn't it how Gephardt's little problem with his loan from McAuliffe's bank just came to light along with his "rental property".

Lieberman's been tied to Enron via Citigroup, and Kerry's been labeled dry, and uninspiring by the same liberal media that decided Edwards wasn't ready for prime-time.

Daschle's hiding in his hole because he doesn't want anybody to mention his wife and her lobbying dollars ever since the call came for him to release his tax returns. I wonder how that got started?

Now she's got to get to work on her biggest challenge. GWB. And don't think she's not power hungry and money hungry enough to find a way to do it.

Larry may not even be aware of it. The money could be coming in via an anonymous donor or a third or fourth party.

It is in the best interests of the country to have Larry release his records to the IRS to make sure that something like that isn't happening.

"If Larry Klayman doesn't write these press releases, whoever does writes EXACTLY, PRECISELY, WORD FOR WORD what Klayman tells them to write. Actually that person would be called a secretary."

Actually, that person would be called "Larry Klayman."

You could at least have expected him to get some advice from an accountant right? He could at leats keep his statements consistent as to what types of contracts he is "investigating" right? He first states that Halliburton’s problems were with disputed over runs on "fixed price" contracts and then states on CNN that the problem centers on "cost plus" contracts, which btw became as scarce as Larry Klayman's integrity in the early 80's in the EPC industry.

How on earth does this:

Halliburton CEO Says Cheney Knew About Firm's Accounting Practices

Turn into this:

HALLIBURTON CEO ADMITS CHENEY KNEW OF ALLEGED FRAUDULENT ACCOUNTING POLICIES

"And wanting honesty in business is a "dem" talking point? That's new to me."

What...do you have a chip in your head or something that refuses to allow you to see anything that might show Larry with his halo untarnished? There are literally a dozen times in that interview where Larry postured for attention. You know it and I know it.

It is in the best interests of the country to have Larry release his records to the IRS to make sure that something like that isn't happening.

To the best of my knowledge, all dealings with the IRS are confidential in nature. The outcomes may become public, but not the details.

Most sheep don't wonder why. But for you, I'll explain. It protects the IRS for those few celebrated cases they make stick and no one hears about the hundreds that don't. That's the way it is.

Naturally, it keeps the rest of the sheep in the pen as a result.

"the entire rationale for the lawsuit is to give Russ Verney something to do.

Actually, no. Russ Verney is not a lawyer. The only other person in the Dallas office is a clerical person. The Dallas office had nothing to do with litigation. Which could pose quite a problem for Larry. The entire rationale for the lawsuit is to please Ross Perot and to give Larry Klayman a shot at humiliating Dick Cheney and by extension George Bush.

Wrong.

Larry's point of view is that Halliburton practiced illegal accounting. Halliburton is hardly confirming that. What they've confirmed is that Cheney was CEO and was aware of Halliburton's change in accounting practices and signed off on their 1998 & 1999 financials. Gosh, how unethical. The same year he first signs off on those financials they just happen to have the fact that there was a change reported in the footnotes as required by the SEC.

How utterly unethical can he get. I can hardly stand it.
