12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

So why did Agnew depart? His problem was accepting bribes while governor. Come to think of it, maybe Veeps can be prosecuted. I'm losing it. In any event, if a convicted crimbo can't be removed, something is seriously amiss. We need a constitutional amendment.

I don't think it's grounded in anything either; that seems to be the problem, from all that I've read. Gerald Ford said high crimes were whatever the House said it was, but then they ended up deciding that some financial doings that Nixon was accused of -- what was it? -- didn't rise to high crimes.......but it WAS while he was running for his second term.......it may have been something concerning CREEP.

What is your problem? That I am quoting my knowledge from 2 semesters of Constitutional Law? I am not a lawyer and that is obvious, but I do understand the Impeachment process.

The Founding Fathers would right to not limit high crimes and misdemeanors to actions taken only while in current public office. The Founders were weary of tyrants and corrupt politicians. This is also the reason why a public official may be impeached for offenses deemed non-criminal.

Mena and Whitewater did NOT have ONE THING to do with Bill Clinton being impeached. And it never would have.

and defacto president, he'll be untouchable.

Fred I have always kind of liked you. However; when you try to get "tough" you just sound desperate. Just stick to your “Go Blank Go” comments because you are not very good and being Tpaine.

He had to; he was being criminally charged. Bribery.

I think the thing is like with Nixon......MOST people with that much evidence against them would resign. Like Nixon and Agnew did. I don't know where that is in the Constitution either.

Howlin,

It is common knowledge that Ken Starr was investigating both of these scandals for added proof into his impeachment inquiry. He couldn't find enough evidence though, and neither could his successor.

You don't think Agnew would have been impeached and convicted if he decided he just loved living in Blair House (or whereever) and was going to stay?

It sure took you long enough to reach your point. Carol was nuked because she had a damn nervous breakdown every night on this forum.

No, it is NOT. He was looking for CRIMES. And if he had found any, Clinton would have been charged CRIMINALLY because he wasn't in office when all that happened.

In theory, a convicted murderer can be elected to the office of President of the United States, no?

I do not know; I just know he resigned and made a deal with the prosecutors. Perhaps if he hadn't resigned they would have tried to impeach him. Who knows. I thought they had enough to get Clinton.

I understand that an out of control Congress could do whatever it wanted to, but you just cannot be impeached for something that happened years before you were elected

I think that Congress can do this

And an out of control congress might try a stunt like this

But I will say .. if the Rats tried a stunt like this .. especially in a time of War

This country will RIP the Rats apart ..

I am not sure felons are eligible to run, but I could be wrong. If elected with voters aware of the felony, in practice, Congress would not act. If it was unknown, and heinous enough, they certainly should act. The health of the Republic might rest on it. Maybe I am being simply too practical here.
