Twenty pence worth of nonsense.
July 10, 2002 -- The terrorist-loving London tabloid that slammed America on the Fourth of July launched another blistering attack on the nation yesterday.
The Daily Mirror's page-one headline screamed: "WE ARM ISRAEL . . . because we don't want to upset George Bush. Which makes us pathetically UNETHICAL poodles, doesn't it Tony?"

Looks like Pilger's ravings were the only thing that kept the share price from falling right off that chart...his article was posted here several times, so I guess we're partly to blame.

They're such serious journos suddenly, aren't they? That's the front page from yesterday up there, and here's the one from the day before that:

And the front page for today, July 10:

Truly a bastion of thoughtful, sober analysis, I'm sure you'll agree.
Here we see "Daily Mirror" editor Piers Morgan as he searches for inspiration for tomorrow's front page...

They're the moral compass of Fleet Street and the world.
On that second cover, Gore Vidal (bottom L) is a nice touch.

WE ARM ISRAEL . . . because we don't want to upset George Bush. No, you arm Israel because you want your defense industry to make money.
What they sold were computers for f-16 fighter jets. It's hardly the same as selling weapons, and if you didn't sell them to Israel, Israel might reverse engineer them and start competing with you, like they already have with their Merkerva tanks.
