Why would they check for dog hairs on her bedding? There is no evidentiary purpose to it. The dog and she lived in the same house. They looked for evidence coming from humans. They must collect a ton of fibers and will testify to the pertinent.

Here is my vision of what kinda went on. (Maybe it is late, and I am crazy too.)

You are the cops. You get called and there is a gunshooting. You arrive. In the building there is one dead guy, with several bullet holes in his body.

You look around, and someone tells you that the guy in the corner did it. You go over and near him is a gun.

You arrest the guy. You talk to the others but let them go.

NOW, turns out all the guys had guns. The bullet holes in the body are each different sizes, and the guy you arrested didn't have a gun on him, and the one near him hadn't been fired.

So, you take the gun and use it to fire a few shots into the corpse, and carry on your merry way. You got your man.

Anyway, Just some food for thought.
