My browser, IE 6.0, displays a caret, "^", at the end of every thread title on the "http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/browse" page.

DOS, what's that?

Oh, heck, you need to do the DOS tutorial! Here's how to do it:

1. Click on Start, then Run.
2. Type CMD.
3. Type FORMAT C: to get the tutorial.
4. When it asks if you're sure, it means "are you sure you want to run the tutorial?" Answer Y and hit the Enter key.

Hey, don't thank me, that's what us experts are for...

Hey, thanks a lot. But it's much more complicated than the Unix tutorail. All I had to do on that one was type "cd \ [enter] at the # prompt and type "rm *" [enter].

Those cookies you are cancelling clear out an old cookie that your browser is sending to FR. If you accept the cookies, they should clear the old one, and never bother you again. (It is your "IDENTITY" cookie, which was from an old FR login that has expired.)

Update:

I have been accepting FR cookies all morning. Still, 2 cookies with every new frame, 4 cookies with every reply to a post.

Now if I just had some milk....

The tutorial in UNIX is found after you type in

rm -r *.* after the #

Of course I might be wrong as I am still looking for that darn "any key"

Keep on trying. We're "rooting" for you! Some folks claim it's that one with the flag flying on it, but I hear it's a sign that you are under the spell of the Evil Empire.

This brings up a good point. I don't know how it happened or when it happened, but due to saying yes to one of those darn Microsoft License Agreements, I am now the pool boy for Bill Gates.

Seriously, I just got back from having to reboot a freakin' Windows server that was locked up (I could not dial in to it). Our Unix boxes on the other hand have been working flawlessly for months. I love Unix. That is why I have a sticker in my office that says "Bow down to me for I am Root."

Our office ran Unix/Xenix for over 9 years for everything with just one crash. Due to the need for compatibility with others we now run Windows and are fortunate if a PC will run 9 hours wihout the Blue Screen of Death.
