They worry students from Spanish-speaking households -- 65 percent of Gilroy High's 2,300 students -- won't enroll in honors classes even if they can do the work because their parents aren't aware the classes exist and won't push their children to take them.

What the hell!!! So because they think Mexican parents aren't involved in helping their children learn, that all other children should be held back also. THIS IS WHAT DIVERISTY IS. Rather than having everyone striving for excellence, its about forcing everyone to the lowest common denominator. WHy give some students a chance to excel, it might hurt the other students feelings. Give me a break.

I live just a few miles from here in a neighboring town. Ironically in my town they're thinking of getting rid of advanced/honors classes due to a civil rights challenge brought about by a mexican group. Apparently not enough Mexicans were getting into classes like Honors English so it was concluded that the classes must be racist.

This is why I despise the waves of illegal immigration that are destroying California. These immigrants are not here just to work hard and to contribute, they look at us with envy and want to drag our children down to their level. I can't think of anything more petty than trying to take away an honors program for all students just because not enough of a particular color happen to sign up. Why should all children be penalized because some have bad parents?

Fortunately diversity requirements seem to have drawn the line prior to serious mental illnesses, and specific manners of handicap.

Since the left has no plan or concept of HOW to promote and encourage excellence, all they can do is ensure that they bring down the successful. It's no different in education than it is in economics for them.

They're lazy and pathetic and would rather mooch than excel or encourage excellence. Their REAL problem is, once they've squashed excellence to the point of obsolescence, there's nothing left for them to mooch.

And they're so blind that they don't even see that...the left is ALWAYS blind to the unintended consequences of their actions. They'd make great chess opponent if you wanted to ensure your victory.
