Armed guards, including undercover officers, will patrol public areas after attack at LAX's El Al site.

Armed police officers, some working undercover, will be deployed near ticket counters and other public areas of airports nationwide in response to this week's deadly Independence Day shooting by an Irvine man at Los Angeles International Airport, federal officials said Saturday.

>"It is costing Americans billions for security, but we still don't have it," said Dan Azra, 52, of North Hollywood, the neighborhood where victim Aminov lived.

Apparently we are spending billions on erecting an awesome anti-terror beauracracy, not on anti-terror itself.

About those security cameras... Would not have helped. Those National Guardsmen with empty rifles... not a help.

No s**t Sherlock. How is Norm "We don't need no guns" Mineta going to spin this?

It appears to be human destiny to fight each war with the tactics of the last one.

As long as thousands of folks are in the country with the sole purpose of killing as many Americans as possible these security tactics are at best a holding action.

Find them. Arrest them. Deport them. And don't let them back in the country!

P.S. As long as empty suits like Maneta (sp?) and Ridge are running the show we are in deep deep trouble.

Mineta is fixated on his family being detained in WWII; he measures all security against that standard. IMHO, he is the weakest of GWB's choices - and that includes Andrew Card. I think Mineta took the job thinking it began and ended with making the 'trains run on time', but he's in waaay over his head.
