"two translations of the same text are never the same."
That's why some are considered better than others; sometimes the word 'definitive' is attached to certain translations.Substitute *translations* for *texts* in deconstruction-speak. This is what she is up to. She has parlayed being a translator into being a noisy political activist. This is her claim to fame that makes her big shot in the academy.
I skimmed some of her babble but I think she takes this a few steps further. Where all translations are valid. The ones done by oppressed and struggling 3rd world pipples are even more valid. Part of the deconstructionist "discourse" where "texts" are eliminated from curriculums when they are written by oppressive white males. Can't say I understand it all but it's amusing and dangerous.

In this particular case, the issue is Leftists with knives out for Jewish Leftists. Key is Leftist, not Jewish, though the excuse for the issue purportedly is Israel. How true. And to think these leeches collect salaries from taxpayers for this bulls**t. They all seem to be in universities and other publicly funded institutions.

Your post #96........
Thanks for the great peak inside the world of translators and Mono Baker. Helps to understand Mono and what she's up to. I never knew it was so politicized ...meaning took a strong (MLA style) left turn!

Now I understand too how a nazi Germany can happen. I'm afraid it will happen again in a modern form with different characters. The masses are easy to brainwash. I've been seeing this for months and it's very alarming. Now I understand how it happened in Germany.

If there are Jews involved then you are always ready to supply some extra drama and off-topic commentary. It is the most remarkable thing. Threads dealing with Israel almost always mention Jews. Go figure.
I see you did a little research after the gratuitous comment above and tumbled to where these academics are politically. Wasn't such an "off-topic commentary" I made after all was it?
Nobody else noticed it. Everyone was cheering a marxist from Harvard and a peacenik from Israel on.
What would you do without me?
To: Shermy
This, in leftist talk, means criticism of one of their views. Reveals how they feel speech is a political tool, rather than a right or virtue. That is an excellent point and one I had never considered before.

I of course would reply "What would you do without da joooooos to scrutinize? Without Israel to examine?" But it's still early so I won't.

An Egyptian, huh? I seem to recall another Egyptian in the news recently. Just a coincidence I'm sure. < /sarcasm>

It is the most remarkable thing. Threads dealing with Israel almost always mention Jews. No, that is not the most remarkable thing. The most remarkable thing is that threads not dealing with Israel or Jews in any way whatsoever will often suffer a visitation from Mr. Lied, who will introduce his obsession in no uncertain fashion. Do you want me to post a few links by way of demonstration?
Actually, I think you'd be able to expose a Jewish plot in everything, from the production of raisins to the way an errant seagull shat upon your car.
Go figure.
I did. I figure you're a compulsive loon with a membership in the American Nazi Party.

Well....actually I am staying up a bit late! Sometimes on Sat. night I stay up late on FR, then I sleep for a few hours, and then back to my normal routine on Sun. night. I feel like I've just got caught red-handed!!
This is a very interesting thread. It is sad that people who are in charge of translating languages would use it for political purposes. What a shame. Too bad that woman can't be fired. The universities are run by liberals who want to force people to think the way they do. It becomes very frustrating for the professors who want the students to really learn and think for themselves.
I thought I was the only one around as it's usually slow at this time. It's nice to know there are others about.

Notice her necklace... The crescent and star in Islam comes from the Arabs (although the Turks also claim it) and their geography. The "Fertile Crescent" includes modern day Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Egypt. If you look at a map, these countries form a crescent shape the opposite of the Turkish Flag's crescent. The star comes from Cyprus, the Island near Syria and Lebanon. Some also say that pagan Turks brought the symbol into the Ummayed Empire when they were conscripted as soldiers.

One thing the world does not suffer from is a shortage of socialists. First three and a half years on here it was the teacher's unions, Communist China and Clinton. Now Israel is in the news. Despite what you may think, I didn't start the recent Intifada. Even now I had to look it up to spell it.
My choice would be to read and discuss America's war on terror, our troops and strategy. But a certain group of people always seems to want to bring the converstaion back to Israel.
Posted an article yesterday about a country which suffers more suicide bombings than the mideast. Nearly 250 in ten years or so. 100 people killed at a pop. Not one reply.
To: dighton
What's really interesting about this article is that one would have only half the story because her ethnic heritage is deliberately obscured by the author and the paper. Their only reference to her background is that she refused to tell them what it was. How difficult was it to figure out? dennisw must have searched all of 2 minutes before posting a picture and within 2 more minutes her bio was on FR. Print journalism is dead. It has become nothing more than a propaganda tool for whatever views the board of directors of that media hold.
To: dennisw
At the university here, one of the administrators tried to get the professors to sign off on a grant that would teach students math and science using body language! None of them would sign it.
I've been reading FR for a few years now, and I've learned a lot. You guys are really smart!

And you did get an index bump...
