According to the ticker on top of Ha'aretz the FBI is reporting that the LA Airport gunman was an Egyptian-born resident of Irving, California.

Grampa, Jeff Head raised a troubling spectre today that crossed my mind as well. What if today's incident was a practice run to observe the evacuation and crisis response procedures, time frames and security vulnerabilities. Thousands of people were sent outside the terminal - mobbing and surrounding the LAX access and private passenger dropoff throughways where unfettered traffic flow occurs. A loaded van meandering through that evacuated mob ... I trust Jeff's instincts and alarm here. It's a huge vulnerability. What do you think about that scenario?

Shin Bet officers last night praised the swift action taken by the El Al station officer and the guards.

I have to admit .. if these guards were not armed this could have been a lot worse

The man, identified by CNN as Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, was overpowered and killed in the shooting. He was identified as a 41-year-old man who has lived in the United States since 1992, CNN reported, citing FBI sources.

WOW ! What a surprise ! A middle-Eastern male between the ages of 18 and 45 committing an act of terrorism ! Who would have thunk it ?

CNN -- (Fredrika Whitfield) -- should have corrected itself (herself) immediately. It was obvious to me the guy was a jerk, I was waiting to hear the Howard Stern yell, but they still should have explained to viewers it was a prank, and it apparently caused a lot of confusion.

The stupidity of the incident today brought to mind CNN's coverage of the fire at Waco in 1993 -- when one of the anchors was on the phone with one of the parents of a Branch Davidian when the fire started. The anchor asked them "How does it feel to watch the building burn?" No response, of course, just a click of the phone.

Not aware if gunman been contacted before. Doesn't know if gunman is on any lists.

Someone with the guns and all would not be confident about boading an airline, must have just wanted to kill people.

Can be characterized as definitely a hate crime (what a putz this guy is!)
