On Nvidias front page I saw they have announced a partnership with the us army in developing a 3D game for PCs. The screenshots look mighty impressive! I'm into games like halflife and metal of honor.. this looks like it will be killer!

I'm not sure about the story elements, but the screenshots and previews I've read look really good.

Try this one, my personal favorite game.
They got everything right in this one, physics, weapons, movement, everything.

Years ago, the Marines built a Doom wod that they gave a way on their website. It was great.

Excellent HL mod - it managed to tear me away from a two-year CounterStrike addiction. In fact, I had to erase DOD from the drives about a month ago because it was taking a little too much spare time. I think I may put it back on now that I've broken the cycle.

I'm an Admin with The HomeLAN Federation and we are the brunt of the beta team for this game. I can assure you, it rocks. It might even be a Counter Strike killer. Very clean, very smooth and very intelligently designed.
The network code is tighter than hell, too. HomeLAN is planning on hosting scores of servers for it.
And unlike CS, there isn't going to be a lot of cheating hacks in America's Army.
I can't wait although, we're beta testing a game from EA and Dice called Battlefield 1942 which is just absolutely amazing. I hope it doesn't over shadow AA.

graphics look good. I hope they have an edge in the game play area.. thats where I always thought halflife and counterstrike shined brightest. I wonder if they'll include the sarge cussing at you.. or weapons jamming..

I attended a showing of the 3D IMAX movie "Space Station". The beginning shows the virtual reality software that is used to train astronauts the tasks needed to build the Space Station and survive in space. The virtual reality goggles and gloves allow for extremely real simulations. When this is available for home use we'll all be mowing the lawn, painting the house and controlling our family robots for all our "honey dews"!!!
The Space Station robot will be one heckuva tool for the 21st Century. It offers the hope for amputees and other physically challenged humans to thrive.

There's no cussing in the game (they are marketing to teens and HomeLAN doesn't permit swearing on our servers) but yes, the weapons jam. Actually, they had to tone down the jamming a bit in the last build.
As for the game play, it's flawless: they are using the Unreal 2 engine. Maps are larger and the graphics are better. But it really shines in the network coding. That game never lags.

How do you order a copy? I have two sons who would probably love it. Hmm. They used to have a link where you could order a CD.. I cant' find it any longer. But their website will make the game *FREE* for download on July 4th:
Okay, soldiers. Prepare to copy! The Recon version of AA:O will be made available for download on 4 July, at 0001 hours. So mark your calendars, clear your summer schedule, and get ready for an action-packed experience of your Americas Army!

wow. thats awesome. In most of the combat fps games I've tried, the player has almost superhuman resistance to getting shot at. If it takes 2 shots to kill a terrorist and 15 shots to kill the player... Its going to be weird ;)

"

It could be that way someday.. I saw a video on cnet.com of the aiebo (sp?!?) robot manufactured by honda. It was eerily nimble. Its fingers seemed articulate.. Thats quite impressive. Perhaps what is really needed in the robot field is a kind of 1st person console, using gogles of course... If you've ever seen motion capture techniques for 3D animations, you could imagine that being construed into an interface for a human to robot controller.
Then.... Then.... heh. Record those movements and play them back like macros. Have a "mow lawn" macro.. Or a "rake leaves" macro.. This could be fun :)
