Terrorists ambushed a night patrol party of army at Dodaj in Darhal area of Rajouri district last night killing an army jawan and wounding two others including a Naib Subedar.

Meanwhile, in another incident, police today recovered Rs 58,000 Indian currency from an agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

An army patrol which was heading towards a naka point in Dodaj under Darhal police station’s jurisdiction at 2100 hours last night was fired upon by a group of terrorists from atop a hill. Army personnel retaliated.

Exchange of firing between the terrorists and army jawans continued for about 20 minutes. The terrorists firing from a hill managed to escape after killing one army soldier and wounding two others. Enforcement of army and police rushed to spot from Darhal immediately after receiving a report of ambush and started a search operation for the terrorists, who had reportedly escaped towards a nearby forest area and remained untraced.

Deceased army jawan has been identified as Rifleman Ghulam Hassan and the injured as Naib Subedar Ravinder Kumar and Naik Zail Singh. Body of Ghulam Hassan was sent to his native village in Thanna Mandi area of Rajouri district while two injured soldiers have been admitted to a Military Hospital, where they were responding to treatment.

Army and police continued a search operation in Dodaj forests to track down the terrorists, who numbered between six to eight. However, no arrest had been made so far.

Our Udhampur correspondent adds: Police today recovered Rs 58,000 in Indian currency from a field at village Chandi in Reasi tehsil of Udhampur district. The money was recovered on the disclosures made by an ISI agent Fakar Din son of Gani Bakerwal, a resident of Balgi, Reasi, who had been arrested by police last month.

Fakar Din had broke down during sustained interrogation by police and disclosed the field, where he had dumped the money. Police said the money had been provided to Fakar Din by another ISI agent for working as a guide with the terrorists and helping them in moving from one place to another.

During the arrest of Fakar Din last month, police had recovered one pistol and two grenades from his possession.

Police said Fakar Din was an active member of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. He had escaped in an encounter in upper reaches of Reasi ending May in which his two associates were killed. Police had succeeded in apprehending Fakar Din after about a week of the encounter.

Police said Fakar Din had also given some important clues about Hizbul Mujahideen network in Reasi.
