Press statement on Bush speech
Commenting on American president George Bushs speech regarding the American vision on the Middle East conflict delivered on 24/6/2002, a responsible source in the Hamas Movement stated the following:
American president Bush delivered what he considered an American vision of a solution to the conflict in the region, which was nothing more than a carbon copy of the Zionist speculation. Bush adopted all Zionist demands as if the speech was allocated to extricate the Sharon government from its ordeal on various levels.
The American administration has reflected its alliance and absolute support to the Zionist aggression. It also displayed absolute ignorance on facts of the conflict and intentionally and horribly ignored our legitimate rights in our lands and holy shrines. It tried to limit the core of the conflict to achieving security for the Zionist entity while offering aid to our people in return for selling their cause and rights just to meet Zionist arrogance and vanity as if our cause was one of a starving people begging for American relief. The American spirit of arrogance was clear in the American presidents haughty address to the Arab regimes and governments compared to the compassionate language addressed to the Zionist enemy.
We in the Hamas Movement condemn the Bush address and we reject such an aggressive speech in total and we affirm the following:
1-We refuse limiting the Palestine cause to providing security for the Zionist entity and ensuring Palestinian and Arab protection of the Zionist entity then leaving the latter to improve life of the Palestinian people as if that people was fighting only to win humiliating living conditions.
2-We denounce (Bushs) description of legitimate resistance as terrorism. We also denounce his attempts to recruit various Palestinian and Arab parties to combat resistance out of service to occupations security, which carries serious repercussions on national unity and threatens pan-Arab national security.
3-We reject the American presidents unaccepted and denounced interference in Palestinian internal affairs. Such intervention even drew the shape of leadership and institutions, which is of the sole interest of the Palestinian people with its various factions. Bushs concentration on details of the Palestinian situation was nothing but an attempt to convert the struggle between our people and the occupying Zionist enemy into internal Palestinian struggle.
4-Bushs speech grants (American) legitimacy to Zionist aggression and exempts it of any commitments awaiting for implementation of specified American and Zionist dictates on the part of the Palestinian Authority and Arab parties. Meanwhile, de facto situations are being forced on the ground to strip our Ummah and people from elements of force mainly the resistance and intifada.
5-Bush was not content to wrongfully term resistance as a terrorist act but compelled the PA and the Arab regimes to combat resistance factions! This despicable act begets hatred to the American stands and policies and ignites rejection and resistance to such positions and policies.
6-The political insinuation of Bushs speech was to prepare roles of certain parties in a way serving the aggressive American scheme aimed at imposing hegemony on the Arab and Islamic Ummah in particular and the world in general under the pretext of fighting terrorism. No Arab or Muslim could accept or remain silent in face of such a plot.
7-This speech unequivocally exposed the American administrations absolute tilt in favor of the Zionist enemy and affirmed that it could never play the role of an honest mediator as some tried to market it.
Fate of this speech would not be better than scores of other projects that were rejected by our people and Ummah across the years of this struggle. Our people and Ummah refuse to receive orders and instructions or specifying what is good or not for national interests from an arrogant man such as the American president who is heading the international throne of oppression and global injustice in addition to supporting Zionist terrorism and aggression.
We denounce the PAs welcome response to that dangerous speech, a matter that affirms the PAs insistence on illusions of the American stand and its capitulation to Bush and Sharons conditions in an attempt to retain a role at the expense of our people and their rights.
We appeal to the Arab and Islamic countries to declare condemnation of the American stands. We also ask them not to accept American oppressive conditions and dictates. We hope that the Arab and Islamic Ummah would continue supporting steadfastness and Jihad of our people until ejection of occupation and independence.
Finally, we affirm that our patient people will continue along the road of Jihad and resistance to grab their rights and defeat occupiers without paying any attention to president Bush or his speech that is filled with arrogance and threats.
And Allah hath full power and control over His affairs; but most among mankind know it not.

WOW.
Should any civilized person be surprised by the remarks of Hamas?
I think not.
Yup, that sounds like a classic Hamas press statement. No real surprises...
