The next round in the fight over the future of school vouchers begins Monday -- at 9 a.m., on the campus of Cleveland State University, to be precise.

That's where some antivoucher groups, including the Cleveland Teachers Union, plan to protest President Bush as he arrives in the city that provided the test case for last week's historic Supreme Court decision declaring vouchers constitutional.

Voucher Battle Will Likely Extend To Statehouses Across the Country

Like that's supposed to be a bad thing?

Hm, sounds like representative democracy in action to me. Sounds like individual states making up their own minds how they would like to proceed. Sounds like the laboratory of freedom in operation.

If the SC were to reverse Roe v. Wade tomorrow, what do you think would happen? Some states would have "protection" of murder, er, abortion in their constitutions, and some states would regulate it or ban it outright. Each state would make up its own "mind", reflecting the wishes of the residents of that state.

Again, SOUNDS LIKE THE WAY THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK TO ME!

Above all, though, voucher opponents are counting on public skepticism about vouchers. Marc Egan, director of the voucher-strategy center of the National School Board Association, says 28 state legislatures debated voucher proposals in the past two years, and all failed -- not because of the constitutional issues that the Supreme Court considered, Mr. Egan says, but because politicians and voters had basic misgivings about vouchers.

Translation: We have had enough control of the media to keep the proles scared with lies. We hope we can continue to do so.

Okay, so the SCOTUS, NONE of the members of which were appointed by Pres. George W. Bush, rules on a case that came before it from Cleveland, where it was put into practice years ago, before Pres. Bush was elected--in fact, during Clinton's term--and the teacher's union wants to protest PRES. BUSH? One of the most popular presidents of modern time?

Man, did they terminate their PR firm's contract for budgetary reasons, or what?

"That does not mean the legal battle is over ... we will continue to challenge these things under state constitutions."

Suddenly, then, the NEA--that bastion of the Left--gets states' rights religion, eh? I love the smell of victory in the morning!

For too long, various state teachers' unions believed the "schools" portion of our property tax was simply theirs.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee !
