after the student assaulted a classmate, punched a hole in a window and threatened to kill the teacher,

These are all criminal offences. Why was this “student” charged and sent to juvenile hall (or jail).

And doesn’t Arizona have the “zero tolerance” policy that is so important to the student’s safety. This kid should have been expelled long a go. If a honor student is suspended for having a butter knife in her car I think this kid should be banned from campus for the safety of “the children”.

You can't touch a student nowadays; career ending opportunity if you do. I had a 250 lb 9th grader, SED, right off meds, IEP a year out of date, no support along with 29 other students in a class. This boy was outta control. Complete disruption. This kid was picking on all the seniors. I couldn't get him removed because his PARENTS wanted him in regular ed classroom. After breaking up the third fist fight, I latched onto this kid and bounced him off the lockers at the rear of classroom, wrong move. I was in the office in front of counselors and kid's parents and I was the entire problem; now the boy lived in fear of me, say it ain't so. Needless to say, I will never break up another fight.

So maybe people on FR should take a look at their local schools and a look at themselves as parents. It all starts in the home and the problems we face in education are just societal reflections of America in general.

Teachers receive little administrative support in such situations. Too many parents blame everything on teachers and the political nature of such situations cause a lack of decisive action. Think about that the next hate teacher post you read.

Just another reason why there is such a severe teacher shortage in America
