Police Seek Suspected Child Molester
The Sioux Falls Police Department is warning parents about a possible child molester in the area. Police have taken two reports of cases where kids have been inappropriately touched in a major chain store in the city. Police say the victims got separated from their parents while shopping. Once separated, the suspected approached the children and accosted them. The suspect they are looking for is a white male, 40 years old, average height and weight, dark hair, a possible beard, and shabbily dressed. Police tell KSFY that the store is cooperating with the investigation and that they feel like they have a good chance of catching him. Parents and store employees are asked to watch for suspicious people that approach children.

Man Molesting Kids In Stores
Sioux Falls police are issuing a warning to parents tonight. Two elementary-age girls have been molested by a man in his 40's after being separated from their parents while shopping in Sioux Falls. Both molestations occurred earlier this week at two separate locations of a major chain store.
Police took the first report Sunday, a second similar report came in yesterday, three days after the alleged molestation happened. Authorities aren't saying where the girls were touched but say it could result in sexual contact charges. Now, to be clear, Target was not the target in these cases, but they've agreed to work with us to offer tips to parents.
At a store where there's so much to see, it can happen in a second. The curiosity of a young child takes over and they're off.
"It's hard because for one thing, I'm not used to it." Kim VanWinkle doesn't have children of her own, but she's looking after four nieces and nephews for the next month, a co-worker's child completes the small tribe.
Keeping track of them all isn't easy but so far, she's managed. VanWinkle says, "Even with these two, I've talked about making sure they stay with me."
Jeff Oltmanns, Target, says, "I wouldn't say it happens on an everyday basis but it happens quite frequently."
When kids wander away at Target Oltmanns says, "Everybody gets involved. We always have our security watching for suspicious behavior. We have a person posted at the door and throughout the store."
When kids are separated from their parents, one of the first places they'll check is here in the toy department. Oltmanns says, "Lot of parents will send their kids to the toy department or some and we ask they don't do that. We ask that you send an older brother or sister with."
Or better yet go with them yourself.
McManus says, "Make sure you know where your kids are at at all times and if you notice they've gotten away from you, start the search and get them back in control."
Police aren't saying which store these molestations occurred at because business is working with police to try and catch the suspect. He's in his 40's, average height and weight, has dark hair, possibly a beard. Police are checking their sex offender registry to see if there are any matches for that description.
