(Montrose, New York-AP) -- An anti-nuclear activist has been charged with trespassing at a Westchester County high school where officials were distributing pills to protect residents in case of a nuclear catastrophe.

State police say 57-year-old Marilyn Elie of Cortlandt Manor was arrested shortly after 10 a-m at Hendrick Hudson High School. Elie -- a founder of the Westchester Citizens Awareness Network -- was given a ticket and released.

Elie says she was handing out literature calling for the closing of the Indian Point nuclear reactor as people arrived for their 130-milligram doses of potassium iodide.

Residents who live within ten miles of Indian Point can receive one free ``K-I'' pill from the county. The anti-radiation pills can protect residents from cancer if there is a nuclear accident. They were first handed out on June Eighth.

School officials say they called police after Elie was asked to leave the property and refused.

Elie says she had been at the high school about two hours before her arrest. She says other people who had been distributing information with her opted to leave rather than face arrest.

On public property, handing out political literature, and arrested?

Sure because I can say 'No Thanks'. Oh by the way the article did not make it clear if school was in session or if the school was being used only as a distribution point. If the school were in session, then I would be against distributing handouts to the students.
