The Republicans of the Fifth Congressional District of Iowa held their special convention today to select their nominee for Congress.
There were four candidates in the primary that was held June 4 but Iowa law says that if not any candidate gets 35% of the vote, the delegates to the District Convention select the candidate.
Conservative, State Senator, Steve King got the most votes in the primary but only got 31% of the vote.
Senator King was the victor today at the convention.
This is very good news for conservatives as Steve is perceived to be among the most conservative of the four candidates. He is a leader in the Senate and a very gutsy guy.
The very best part of this selection today is that there are at least 55,000 more Republicans than Democrats in the district so King should be on his way to Washington.
Help is on the way.

He won, too.
I tell you, Freepers, help is on the way.
Keep the House
Reclaim the Senate
Add one more:
Squash 'em like a bug.
The ranking Democrats on critical committees are downright scary. If we don't keep the House, Charlie Rangel will write our tax code (Ways and Means), John Conyers will oversee our war on terror (Committee on Judiciary) and Henry Waxman (Reform and Oversight) will root out government corruption.
Yep, him and the 'eWW' teamed up would be something else....... I'm not a fan of term limits per se, but thinking about some of the committees makes one wonder about it.
The first ballot went exactly as we had it figured. The second ballot was a surprise to me. I expected Siegrist to go out second. Ballenger actually lost votes.
That brought us down to King and Siegrist. Some of the delegates had left by then so the total numbers were a bit smaller but King prevailed by 19 votes. It was closer than I thought it would be.
There appeared to be complete unity after Steve was selected. All four candidates were on stage together.
IT made me proud to be an Iowa Republican. No nasty anything.

LOL! You can do better than that DEPORT; I believe in you. You know that Judicial Watch is the only one out there seriously going after both the Clinton crimes and government corruption, period.
Besides, although there may be many congressmen that we may not like, term limits for U.S. Congressmen have already been declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. U.S. Term Limits v. Thorton Term limits place an unconstitutional barrier on the right to be a candidate for public office, and they violate the right of voters to cast ballots for the candidates of their choice. Essentially, only one's age, citizenship, and residency, are mentioned in the U.S. Constitution as requirements to run for Congress. However, states, and citizens with the popular initiative and referenda, can limit the terms of their own state legislators.
My congressman has served for 32 years, not only does he have years of experience, he fits the type of congressman that I want to serve in congress for my congressional district. Term limits would not only limit his right to run for public office, it would infringe upon my right to cast the ballot of my choice for the person of my choice for public office.
You forget that the great state of Illinois is home to Henry Hyde, Dan Hastert, Phil Crane, and Ray LaHood. Sure, the city of Chicago is liberal, but the surrounding suburbs are pretty conservative.
Admit it, you like it when I correct you.
