Half Million Dollar Fraud and Forgery Scheme Uncovered Posted: 9:49 p.m. MDT June 28, 2002
Near Trampas, NM -- Our Target Seven Team uncovered a half million dollar fraud and forgery scheme.
Now, a federal grand jury indicts two men, including a former Bureau of Indian Affairs official.
The charges relate to a construction project at Picuris Pueblo.
Former BIA contract officer Steve Calvin is charged in a ten count criminal indictment for awarding his son-in-law, Anthony Dohi, hundreds of thousands of dollars in lucrative construction contracts, even though Dohi was unlicensed, inexperienced and unqualified. Dohi is charged with bilking the government out of almost $150,000 in fraudulent claims.
The Picuris bridge was just completed, two years late, and more than a million tax dollars over its original cost.
