Baby Bomber Picture 'Joke'

The Palestinian family who photographed their baby dressed up as a suicide bomber has told Sky News it was a joke.

The Israeli Defence Forces found the photo during a search of a Palestinian militant's home in Hebron. The child was pictured wearing a belt of fake explosives and bullets.

But the family told Sky's Andrew Wilson the picture was "just a joke".

"The photograph was taken some time ago at a party when someone dressed up the cutest baby as a suicide bomber," one relative said.

The picture went around the world and became a symbol of despair for all those who want peace in the Middle East.

Suicide bombers have taken on heroic status in the occupied territories with posters and pictures of them plastered on walls and homes.

They believe they will go to heaven if they succeed in their mission to kill Israelis and end the occupation.

Bombers' funerals take place in the belief that the deceased will go to paradise.

And there is seemingly no end to the number of Palestinians willing to sacrifice their lives for the Palestinian cause.

With the Israelis proving ineffective in stopping the bombers getting into Jerusalem, the tactic of suicide bombing is highly successful, and is perhaps the only tool the Palestinians have to fight the heavily-equipped Israelis.

Around 26 Israeli civilians have been killed in back-to-back bombings this month.

And along with the deaths, dozens of Israelis have been maimed and disfigured by the attacks.

Israeli medics say bombers have packed their explosives with nails, ball bearings and anti-coagulants to cause maximum damage.

Last month a Palestinian bomber aged 16 killed two Israelis in a park near Tel Aviv.

Issa Bdeir became the youngest attacker to blow himself up.

An Israeli baby was also killed when a suicide bomber hit a crowded bus last week.

Meanwhile President George W Bush has insisted that his Middle East proposals had been welcomed by G8 leaders meeting in Canada.

The move comes despite reports of a serious rift between Britain and Washington over President Bush's call for Yasser Arafat to stand down.

Some joke. How disgusting these people are to not only dress their baby as a suicide bomber, but to think it's funny that innocents in Israel are murdered daily by suicide bombers.

God help us if these people get their own state.

Some things just aren't funny. It's still a baby dressed as a suicide bomber, no matter how you look at it.
People should see what they think is "funny." Words can say one thing, but actions say a lot more.

oh, i see...at 2 yrs old, it's a "joke." so what about all those other pictures of kids (3,4,5,6+) dressed similarly singing songs of praise for martyrdom, or dressed in fatigues with pullover masks chanting death to the jews and infidels? seems their death cult knows no bounds.

however, good to see that this picture is being publicized. so far i've seen it on cnn, msnbc, fox and know of it on sky. the media needs to show more of this to follow up. (wishful thinking.)

God help us if the get their own State No, God help them, if they become a State. They will then be made accountable for their terrorism, even the liberals wount be able to protect them. Also, the palestinians will have to make their own way in this world, and can no longer depend totally on the rest of the world for their exsistence. That's why the palestinians, particular arafat don't seriously want a Palestinian State, he wants his cake, and eat it also.

Great joke. Surely we all see the humor in blowing oneself to smithereens and killing scores of innocent people in the process...and when you throw in dead babies, why that's hilarious. Right? What a sick society.

But once they become a State (IF they become a State), won't they then be able to enlist the help from other Arab countries to "take back the Land that is theirs" (from Israel)? Their intent is not a State, their intent is to destroy the Israelis. Even if the Jews did not occupy Israel. They (Jews) could occupy Rhode Island and the PLO, etc., would still want to push them into the sea. Maybe not ALL Palestinians, but darn near.

At this point there's one rational solutino to the problem and one only: the US has to force the surrounding arab countries to find someplace to put the palis, 300 miles or more from Israel. There's no way anybody could ask the Israelis to accept the palis as neighbors at this point. Anything else is wishful thinking.
