Can Eating Hamburgers Actually Lower Your Cholesterol?
 Email story to a friend

Is fast food a personal vice for you? If so, we've got good news.

Scientists have discovered a way to cut your cholesterol, but not cut out your hamburger eating. Their research shows that adding soy to hamburger meat can actually reduce your cholesterol significantly.

College students who ate a hamburger with soy once a day saw their cholesterol drop by an average of 10%.

Soy burgers are horrid inventions!

My mother went through a healthy phase when we were growing up, started adding soy to everything. We hated it, but of course, she couldn't just throw it out, so she sneaked it into everything for months (it seemed like) until she finally used up the last of it. Hurray!

Drop the 78 grams of sugar of sugar you get in your 42 ounce coke and the half pound of potato waiting to become sugar in your fries and a hamburger is healthy

Can Eating Hamburgers Actually Lower Your Cholesterol?

I guess it depends on WHAT kinda hamburger.

One of the biggest misunderstandings about the body's chemistry is that eating fat containing foods automatically equals high cholesterol. The converse is also true...lowering your intake of fatty foods will not automatically lower cholesterol.

In my case I lowered my cholesterol by 40 points by restricting carbs and eating low fat meats and cheeses. Of course I'm sure the exercise didn't hurt.

Yes, the government can add 3% soy to hamburgers without declaring it and still call it 100% beef. It's great for all EXCEPT people like me who have an allergic or intolerent reaction to soy. (By the way, the soy industry is being sued in Australia and New Zealand.)
Thirty years ago a soy company in the midwest fired all of it's food scientist because they discovered that many people could not tolerate soy. (I know, a relative was one of them.) Those of you who have spastic colon or are having trouble having children, omit soy from your diet and see what happens! We're not being told alot!

I have my cholesterol down to 185 simply by having olive oil everyday (and using it as a substitute for butter whenever possible), drinking beer and wine daily, and having a bowl of Quaker Oats (plain) and a can of sardines daily. Other than that, I eat pretty much what I want to eat which includes lots and lots of meat: Thick juicky steaks, sloppy ribs loaded with sauce and jalapenos, chicken drumsticks and thighs, pork chops, huge burgers wrapped in swiss cheese and bacon.

I was raised on soy burgers, soy hotdogs, and soy fake chicken. I've eaten tons of the stuff, and now I avoid it as much as possible.

I figure I've already eaten a lifetime's worth of garden burgers, and I'm entitled to pure red meat as often as possible.

We've had some really nummy soy burgers!! Boca Burger is one of them. We used to be able to get a really large Boca Burger from Sams Club.. but they discontinued it!! There are other good brands too. (Larger than the ones by Boca Burger sold in the health food section at your super market)

This is good news!!! Add some pickles, onions, tomatoes, and HEALTHY bread..and UMMMMM!!! Bon Apetit'

YEAH!!! LOVE red meat!! OLIVE oil is taken by the tablespoon daily, if for some reason it is missed in a meal by Italian families. Red wine has health benefits too. Sounds like SamAdams is on a diet like ours. Our blood work has gone down too. All this NO FAT nonsense.. has made AMERICA FAT!!! We allegedly all fell for the low fat crap.. and there is more obesity, and more heart problems than ever!! Eggs? Well, they told us only one a week.. and that sure changed!! Why? Because eggs have an enzyme in them that counters bad cholesterol!!!

Excercise is the key thing that we are missing. Simple walking is enough. But we don't do that in America (not as a whole). We'd be wise to walk a mile or two a day. Anyone can do it..and we'd be better off for it. Bikes? Look to any country with better health stats then Americans,..and they walk or ride bikes a lot.

I'm kind of sick of all the eat this don't eat that group. But I have to say.. I honestly like the taste of some soy burgers better than regular burgers. And if we have regular burgers.. we get them with MORE fat!! Not the 8% crud!! ;o)

Bingo. Americans' diets are too high in carbs, not too high in fats.

Someday I may be brave enough to try eating a sardine. But I like fish boned and fileted, and the idea of popping a whole fish into my mouth seems plain weird.

I like to use about 25%-35% pork sausage (country style) in my burger mix. It gives a really nice flavor, even though you have to cook them medium well. I'm also a fan of well seasoned meat, which includes liberal use of salt, pepper and garlic powder mixed in with the meat, at least half an hour before it hits the grill.

I'm gonna give that a shot.

As for the dietary Nazis, I'll eat just about anything they tell me not to. I eat red meat every day, not much chicken, all the butter I want, donuts, fast food. cheese, sugar cereals, beer daily, and more microwavable bachelor food than you can imagine. I do drink a lot of juice, I guess that's healthy. I also eat a lot of onions, pickles and pepperoncinis. I figure all of the acidic and spicy stuff will burn the grease right out of my veins.

My work is mildly physically demanding, but I don't do any organized exercise.

My cholesterol is 147 and my waistline is up an inch since high school.

Think I'll have Froot Loops this morning.

About 2 minutes prior to taking them off the grill, you'll want to mash some of the grease out with a spatula - be ready for major flames, and make sure you have at least half a beer left to put it out if it gets too wild.

Grilling those babies usually takes two beers for you, and a half a beer for the flames..

Sound like I'll need a helmet.

I've never quite figured out how it works. My boss, who never ate meat until he was 15 -- and that was an accident -- and who is still today primarily a vegetarian although he will eat chicken occasionally, is on medication for high cholesterol.

I don't get it.

Why is it a hamburger doesn't have any ham in it? But the real question is, does it have a burger in it?
