A "Day of Remembrance" for the victims of the September 11 attacks is being held today at the Javits Center.
The event was organized by the group Give Your Voice. Governor George Pataki and former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani are expected to attend, as well as families of those lost in Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
It's a day to pay tribute to all the people that were lost on 9/11, from Pennsylvania families to the Pentagon families to the mothers and fathers who lost sons and daughters over in Afghanistan, said Marie Granieri, the co-founder of Give Your Voice. We're honoring all of the people that were lost.
The Day of Remembrance began at 9:30 a.m.
Mayor Bloomberg has said he won't be able to attend because of a prior commitment to attend a police memorial.
