OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Wayne woman walking on an interstate highway was dragged nearly five miles after being hit by a tractor-trailer rig in Cleveland County, authorities said.

Michelle Fincher, 31, was killed about 11 p.m. Thursday while trying to walk across Interstate 35 in Moore, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Fincher was hit by a car traveling south, then was knocked under the trailer of a semi, troopers said.

Authorities were searching for the driver of the semi, who continued south on I-35.

"The 18-wheeler didn't stop," said Capt. Gerald Davidson of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. "It's unknown if he knew he hit anyone at all."

The driver of the car refused treatment for minor injuries. Two passengers were not injured, troopers said.

The woman was difficult to see because she was wearing dark clothing, authorities said.

The accident closed Interstate 35 for more than one hour.

Stupidity was a certainty. Drugs and/or alchohol were most probably a factor.

The truck driver probably thought he hit a piece of retreaded tire.

During my days of driving and working in the Texas Oil Fields just north of Del Rio, you would not even feel the impact of a deer that you had run over with your 18 on IH 10.

You did want to be sure that you checked under your trailer everday so that you would not have a stinking carcass rippening at the rear axels.

That poor truck driver may find hair and body parts under his a day to two later and have no clue as to when it happend or where.

This is literally 15 minutes away from where I live, and I'll tell you that people around here ARE stupid enough to cross a highway

Last night about 9:20 ie After dusk - a woman out for a walk in out neighborhood walked right in front of my car - she was wearing dark clothing and no kidding, I hit the brakes inches from her. What was she thinking? I'll never know, although I was tempted to park the car and ask her. I assume she thought she was glowing or something, but she was just a shadow that moved.

About four-five months ago I was driving west on I-10 near Houston, coming out from town to the west suburbs where I live, when the familiar sight of a traffic slow-down greeted me.

I pulled off onto the service road where traffic was not quite so backed-up, and was blessed to come upon a bloodied sheet with a man's legs sticking out of it, lying on the side of the freeway about 10 yards from where I passed.

Yep, vagrant trying to cross one of the most heavily traveled interstates in the nation near one of its largest cities.

I think the guy was in his fifties. It is unfortunate that he probably passed on his genes before he left.
