Beating what's likely to be the Democratic war drum in this year's elections, Al Gore blamed the nation's economic scandals from Enron to WorldCom last night on President Bush's economic policies.
"You see now what it means to have an administration that's that committed to fighting and working on behalf of the powerful, and letting the people of this country get the short end of the stick," Gore told more than 200 supporters at a Manhattan fund-raiser.
It was his strongest attack yet on Bush's economic policies and a preview of the likely Democratic strategy for November's elections.
"What we see now is a lack of confidence in our national economic policy, in the integrity of our accounting system, in the way government is being run," Gore told more than 200 supporters in Lot 61, a trendy Chelsea night spot.
The private companies, he said, "are not telling the truth about their future liabilities so they can shovel money out to executives at the top. That is exactly what the Bush-Cheney tax plan will do. They are misleading the country about the extent of the liabilities they are putting on us ... on you."
Gore also said the Securities and Exchange Commission isn't doing its job, and he called on its chairman, Harvey Pitt, to resign, suggesting Pitt is too cozy with captains of industry.

Gee,.. I wonder under "whose watch" all this playing with numbers started. NICE TRY GORON!!! He must think the majority of Americans are still all sheep!! Me thinks this is all going to backfire horribly on the Dems. Just keep it up Gore, Carville, McCaulife.. et all!!

These comments are so looney I can only determine that Algore is insane.

So all of this just started eighteen months ago? Oh, I see. Nothing at all to do with the previous eight years of lies, deceit, and obfucation.
Thanks for clearing that up, Al.

None of these scandals evolved overnight, they took a long time and most of it happened under Clinton. Of course, we won't hear much about that...even if it should be obvious to everyone. Even Al Gore!

I know.. and now the Dems are desperate and that is the beauty of it all. I think Americans are waking up and listening these days. I think they are very aware of all the things that the Dems are doing,..and from what I heard yesterday.. a LOT of NYC'ers are changing political ideologies fast after 9/11. They DO get it I'm hearing. Sadly, it took a tragedy to wake up some.. but we always knew it would. I wish that weren't so.. and pray that they HAVE woke up before more tragedy strikes. We need to support an administration who is putting America first..and not Hollywood and Polls. Not a party'er who wants to bask in power.. but a religious man who LOVES his country and the troops who are defending us!!

I always consult with Al Gore when their are important ethical or moral questions to consider. Unless Bill Clinton is available.

Let us place the blame where it belongs. These business reversals are all the planned efforts of a relatively small number of well-placed titans of financial operations. A lot of these individuals have little or nothing to do with the Republican hierarchy that is in control in the White House and the legislative branch. In fact, most of them have far more ties with the Democrat National Committee. You want a road map of which corporations are going down next, look at where Terry McAuliffe has been concentrating his activities most recently.
Think of these "bonus bums" "Masters of the Universe" or whatever term applies, they are nothing more than economic terrorists. They are, in their way, as fiendishly destructive as the Islamists that flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that fateful day in September of last year. In monetary terms, they have squandered even more of our nation's wealth than all the combined al-Qaeda activity, and this is ON TOP OF the losses sustained to the US economy already.

Dear Al, just pay your new mortgage with your Occidental Petroleum profits and shut up.

Oh, Al.....PLEASE.....Keep opening your yap - it's really great to hear your brilliance......hope the Dems appreciate it as much as we do!!!!!!

"You see now what it means to have an administration that's that committed to fighting and working on behalf of the powerful, and letting the people of this country get the short end of the stick,"If that were true, the previous administration would get the blame. However, the fact that the scandals have come to light is proof that the market works and no gov't intervention is needed.

Algore is insane
Insanity attracts the insane. Just watch how many Americans will buy Egore's BS. Man, when is this idiot going to get the clue and hunker down and shut the f up?

>>>Beating what's likely to be the Democratic war drum in this year's elections, Al Gore blamed the nation's economic scandals from Enron to WorldCom last night on President Bush's economic policies.Let's see, Clinton-Gore controlled the federal government for 96 consecutive months. So far Bush-Cheney have been at the helm for less then 17 months. There is no relative evidence to support Algore's outrageous claims against Bush-Cheney. I think most Americans would therefore conclude, the blame lies somewhere else. Its highly likely, the eight years of Clinton-Gore policy, more then anything else, directly attributed to the financial troubles now plaguing corporate America. That's just my educated guess.

"The private companies, he said, "are not telling the truth about their future liabilities so they can shovel money out to executives at the top."
Pretty much true. And what did Clinton do about it?

Thank you alloysteel for your terse analysis.
This is like any other bubble, it bursts, top guys stripmine their employees, pensions and shareholders.
With Enron, it isn't surprising that Drexel/Burnham refugees set up scam.
