**Exclusive**
Fresh off his Academy Award for Best Picture this year, superproducer Brian Grazer is now quietly telling associates he's found a new candidate for Oscar: shock-rapper and controversialist, EMINEM!
"He's turned in a performance that reminds me of Stallone in ROCKY," Grazer told a studio executive touting the lead of his production 8 MILE.
"I think the audience is going to be blown away, so will the Academy. I think we've got a good shot at getting nominated," declared Grazer, producer of A BEAUTIFUL MIND, who has publicly called Eminem a "sweet guy".
UNIVERSAL has set a November release for the EMINEM/GRAZER project -- on the doorstep of the heavy award-nominating season.
For Your Consideration: A young rapper in Detroit struggles with his anger through music. Can a white kid with a hardcore blue vocabulary and lots of hate in his heart transcend his meager beginnings and attain global success?
Meanwhile, sales of Eminem's THE EMINEM SHOW continue to be more than 50% higher than all the competition. The release, which has sold more than 3.3 million copies to date, holds on to No. 1 at BILLBOARDSOUNDSCAN for a fifth consecutive week.
Developing...
I know most FREEPERs don't listen to Eminem and may not believe it, but he absolutely rips Bill Clinton in his last album, specifically citing the laughing-at-Ron-Brown's-funeral and the Monica-gate situations.
In a weird way, he points out how much damage Bill Clinton has done to America's youth, though he does it with rather vulgar language: "What do you want me to fix up lyrics while the president gets his [expletive] s*cked?")
And, hey, I have to like (ok, maybe not "like) a guy that has pissed off Osama bin Laden (or his cronies) so much, that he actually has a contract on his life.
As Rev. Jesse Peterson has explained on countless occassions, this has been an epidemic in the black community. Maybe this movie will expose some people to this problem, who didn't think that it was a problem. There are many white, black and hispanic (whatever) absent fathers. Unfortunately, this absense of fathers plays into the "nanny state" mentality too, which is sad.
I find it surprising that a conservative message (keeping the nuclear family together) can be delivered by people who would hardly be considered conservative (like an Eminem).
On the other hand, Eminem is very funny in a sardonic way. The video for that new song of his is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
And compared to the rest of hip-hop, he's the best thing there is (disregarding profanity et al. But if profanity were a virtue, he'd be a saint.)
Au Revoir,
*Belle
Come to the Dark Side, rintense. ;-)
I about died when I first heard this. I haven't seen the Osama routine, but hey, if it pisses off the the dead guy..I'll buy the CD.
Refreshing to hear a young person's perspective.
I think that your analysis is spot-on. I totally agree with you that he definitely needs some type of therapy (drug or otherwise).
He is somewhat of a study in contradications. The most striking contradiction, at least on this subject: he had no father, but he strives very hard to be a good one to his daughter.
Also, he has a very "interesting" take on life. He is very observant and puts two seemingly dissimilar things together and it works. If we could only focus his powers for good, which is, as you commented, the whole point behind his newest video.
You rock! I always enjoy your posts, you're (quite) pretty, you "get" technology AND you have a cool looking dog.
If I wasn't married (with children), I would have proposed already!
Seriously though, you are right about 'Cube. He and Chris Tucker were hilarious and was very good in "Boys in the Hood". Cuba Gooding, Jr. was also fantastic in that film too.
Even though Eminem is controversial on many levels, he is also a kind of interesting representative for success in the USA. If you come from a fatherless home, mother on drugs, living in a Detroit ghetto.....you do have something to say...and can still make it here in the good ol' USA.
