The US government is at risk of a major cyber-attack for which many agencies are ill-prepared, according to a survey of information technology professionals released Tuesday.
The survey, conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs for the Business Software Alliance, found 49 percent of IT professionals believed such an attack is likely in the next 12 months, with a third of those saying it is "extremely likely."
Moreover, of those IT professionals specializing in security issues, including those responsible for their company's computer and Internet security, 59 percent think a major attack against the government is likely in the next year, the survey found.
This is a ploy. We've always been under "Cyber-Attack", I knew this years ago when one of my data bases had Chinese text characters in some of the columns.
Be on the lookout for this being used as an excuse for the Justice Dept. to have a free hand at rifling through every hard drive in the nation and having every ISP beholden to their demands.
If they're so worried about security they ought to secure themselves and let private concerns have the highest degree of encryption possible.
Seeing as we let sophisticated, educated, fluent in English, radical islamist terrorists cavalierly in to the Homeland to go to flight schools at their whim, seems to me we must have some in high tech who are getting paid the nice fees, all the while waiting to pull off their important role in the cyber-jihad.
What kind of security clearances are granted to foreign technicians who service the cyberinfrastructure of the nation through private contractors supporting major US and local governments and systems, including nuke, public health, water, electricity and ER???
And a really good start is to deny most of the Pacific Rim and some places in the mideast, like our "Dear Friends" Saudi Arabia.
The savings on spam bandwidth alone from hijacked open relays in cn,tw,fm,hk alone are worth it.

They look pretty groovy really.
