DECATUR, Ga. -- Classes were just out for the summer, but Tom Keating wouldn't dream of taking a break from his education crusade. One recent morning found him at Redan High School, a few miles from his home. Striding down the main hall like a detective on his way to a crime scene, he turned into an empty men's room near the gym.

My inner city school (35 yr/old) just had its bathrooms restored last year. Work was accomplished over vacations for obvious reasons. Typical of a huge bureaucracy, the urinals for the "big" boys were installed on the first floor, and the fixtures for the "little" boys were placed on the second floor. You guessed it ... the PK, K, and grade 1 classrooms are on the first floor of the building. Needless to say, they were switched at the expense of the contractor. Where was the oversight foreman? LOL

To make an observation of Mr. Keating's noble cause ... the reason we don't have soap is because it is thrown around or flushed ... liquid soap dispensers are ripped off the wall. Students needing TP and toweling are handed it as they enter. This is what happens in the THIRD WORLD. And this is only an elementary school. &;-)

This reminds me of an old story:

At one elementary school, young girls kept trying out lipstick and leaving lip prints all over the bathroom mirrors. The principal and the janitor, after numerous trying unsuccessful campaigns, called a special meeting of the girls.

They were assembled in the bathroom where the janitor demonstrated how the girls were making extra work for him: dipping his mop in a nearby toilet, he proceeded to shop them how he had to scrub the mirrors. After this one short demonstration, the problem never occurred again.
