Heard today that Governor Holden, D- Mo. employed an illegal of Hispanic origin as an aide to the Governor. According to the radio report, the illegal alien had been employed by the State of Missouri for 10 years, making $20,000 a year. Still waiting to hear the local news to see if anything is mentioned.

How can it be????? This is an example of a totally do nothing immigration department. How come those bozos still have jobs if they can't perform. Shame on the State of Missouri for not checking. Is anyone enforcing the laws anymore, or do we call it selective enforcement?

Thanks for the ping. Holden should be arrested and tried on charges of aiding and abetting an illegal alien (federal felony).

Yup. Heard this a few days ago.

Investigate the U.S. Senator! She's guilty of something, you just know it!

I would think that the governor's office would be in more hot water, not the governor himself. Unless he said something like "hire this guy at all costs"

Zoe Baird (Clinton), Kimba Wood (Clinton), Linda Chavez (Bush), all were withdrawn from the nomination process over hiring illegals. Is it now going to be okay to do so simply because a Democrat governor did it?

Sigh. With the 9th Circuit ruling today and other information that has come to light recently, you should know better than to use that phrasing. The employee was a "migrant" worker, just trying to better himself. Ask W. He has no problem with this. I wonder if there are any truely conservative, pro-freedom, pro-business nations out there that need another entrepreneur.

"employed an illegal of Hispanic origin as an aide to the Governor. According to the radio report, the illegal alien had been employed by the State of Missouri for 10 years, making $20,000 a year."
Another one of those jobs Americans won't do. Why earn $20,000 when you can be employed for $12,000.

"Truely conservative? Where is it written in the Conservative archives ANYWHERE that being a true Conservative means accepting illegals and so called Free Trade, for that matter.

Here we have it.... it's official:
Mo. Governor's Staff Hired Immigrant
Missouri Governor's Office Hired Illegal Immigrant Without Background Check
The Associated Press
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. June 26, 2002 - Gov. Bob Holden said Wednesday that his staff unknowingly hired an illegal immigrant as an office courier and even helped the man's daughter apply for her driver's license.
Marvin Gonzalez, a native of Costa Rica, handled the mail and delivered Holden's meals for about 18 months until staff received an anonymous phone call.
Gonzalez was fired Tuesday when it was learned that his legal work status had expired in 1992, Holden said.
Mike Hartmann, Holden's chief of staff, said Gonzalez had not undergone a state Highway Patrol background check, required of most positions in the governor's office. Hartmann said steps would be taken to avoid similar lapses in the future.
Holden, a Democrat, said he had no reason to suspect Gonzalez.
"He provided legitimate documentation when he was hired and we had no inclinations that there was a problem," Holden said.
Under federal Immigration and Naturalization Service rules, prospective employers don't have to ask for proof of immigration status beyond a drivers license and Social Security card. Gonzalez had both, along with INS documentation showing he could work in the United States.
Holden also said that staff members, unaware of Gonzalez' immigration status, helped Gonzalez' daughter obtain a state driver's license after she experienced problems because her birth certificate was in Spanish.
Quentin Wilson, Holden's Cabinet director, said Wednesday that he had made a call about the license after Gonzalez asked for help.
"It was a constituent request, it was a totally appropriate contact," Wilson said. "I was trying to understand what she needed for her to get her license."
Gonzalez could not be reached for comment. No one answered a phone at a residence listed as "M. Gonzalez" in Jefferson City on Wednesday.

Holden should be arrested and tried on charges of aiding and abetting an illegal alien (federal felony). Unless Holden actually did the hiring, he is innocent. He did fire the illegal as soon as he found out.

Who hasn't hired an illegal for good work at a discount price?
