Oh man......what a drag.

Tragic ... but its been happening since I was a kid in the 1960's, and according to my parents, was alive and well in the 30'3 and 40's too.
God rest the souls of the departed and comfort their surviving families and friends.

In the back of a rickety old garage sits a brand new, shiney red super stock Dodge.

Seriously, not every single piece of local news deserves it's own thread.

I'm betting it was a couple of those dorky "souped up" Honda Civics with the oversized geeky spoilers, etc..etc.
Granted, drag racing's been going on for many years, but back then the cars had more to them and could withstand a crash. These geeks are racing 'tin boxes' on wheels.

The 2 dead were in a BMW 2000 station wagon.

"And you won't come back from dead man's curve."
Then ther were songs like Lil' Duce Coup and Drag City. Nobody ever called for censorship ot those songs.

I hear ya. Those Rdds of yesteryear were pretty tough and made of heavy stuff. The lighter cars of today are deathtraps once you obtain certain speeds. There's only so much protection light alloys and plastic can afford.

Rdds = Rods

Yes ... but we're getting to talk and think about souped up hot rods, Holley 4 barrels, lots of CC's, headers and the whole nine yards.
So, I'm glad it was posted if just for where its led.
FRegards.

Stories I'm considering posting to Freerepublic:
Kentucky - Robbery at B-Line Food Mart
Louisville police are looking for a man who robbed the B-Line Food Mart at 3291Taylor Boulevard Monday night. Full Story...
Seattle - No injuries after four cops subdue screaming, naked man Having four officers respond quickly to a report of a naked man pounding on condominium doors in Mountlake Terrace, shouting obscenities and calling himself god, may have prevented... [12:11 a.m. Jun. 26, 2002]
Delaware - [House Speaker] Spence to rework dog bill again.

Yes ... but we're getting to talk and think about souped up hot rods, Holley 4 barrels, lots of CC's, headers and the whole nine yards. A quick go at stoplights was much fun years ago. I personally had and preferred a "sleeper car" (looks frumpy, is muffled down, but has a high-performance engine under the hood.)
From what I see today, looks are everything, with NOTHING for an engine and no understanding of how to keep an accelerating car in a straight line. I also see these kids accelerating too long. It's clear within half a block or less who the big dog is.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Pontiac GTO - hope it's available in a black four-door model!

[12:11 a.m. Jun. 26, 2002] Is that a true story? wild!

Heard on radio this morning a Moberly, MO., guy crawled out the window of his moving car after telling his girlfriend to take the wheel. He lost grip on the windshield wipers and was run over by his own car.

I dunno .... the "police and the naked man" story may warrant further exposure.

I have both a 66 Chevy complete with High performance parts but I also have 88 Mazda MX 6 Turbo and I must admit that if I wrecked I'd rather be in the Old Iron but man my Turbo is fast & fun.

When is a new GTO set to come out? I haven't heard anything about that.
