5-Year-Old Girl Dies In Drinking-And-Driving Wreck Police Arrest Mother On Manslaughter Charge
POSTED: 6:48 p.m. CDT June 25, 2002
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Investigators say a woman's decision to drive after drinking led to her 5-year-old child's death.
Gina Hall, 34, was arrested on a manslaughter charge for the death of her daughter, Jada Anne Hall.
Jada Anne Hall was killed when her mother's Jeep Cherokee flipped twice and threw her out of the car.
Police say the accident on Highway 82 in Tuscaloosa happened just blocks from Hall's home.
They say drinking and driving is as dangerous as shooting a gun into a crowd of people.
Gina Hall faces between two and 20 years in prison if she's convicted. She is being held on $20,000 bond.
Oh, I don't know, if I fired a gun into a crowd as many times as I've driven after drinking (years ago, OK? I don't do it anymore), I expect I would have hit someone. I never hurt anyone while DUI. Firing a gun randomly in the street would probably be a better analogy.
Somehow, if you're sober and you rear end me with a 50 mph speed differential on the highway 'cause you're not paying attention, or turn left in front of me on my bike 'cause you "didn't see me" (yeah, 'cause you weren't looking, stupid!), that's just an accident (or maybe a careless driving charge at worst), but if I get stopped with a .12% BAC and haven't hurt anyone, then I'm a criminal.
Ha ha, sorry, that rant has been building up for a while.
