A five-year-old Italian boy destroyed £1,000 after his grandfather told him money wasn't important.
The unnamed boy, from Mirabella Imbaccari, Sicily, took the money from his father's wallet and ripped it up.
He completely shredded the banknotes and threw the pieces out of the window, Il Nuovo website reports.
The boy claimed to have got the inspiration from his grandfather who told him: "Money is not very important in life, loving each other is much more important."

This lad needs to get a giant hug and be relieved of his guilt. I once did something awful when I was his age, and I carry the insult of it to this day, even though I was forgiven instantly by my parents. &;-)

They shouldn't give that kid any Christmas or birthday presents for a few years or buy him anything nice so he can find out about money.

Now comes the real test. To see if Grandpa and Dad will prove their convictions of family/relationships being more important than money. However, Grandpa owes this child another lesson - on the value of Dad's hard work, provision for family, and stealing/destroying someone else's property.

I'm a little confused as to the amount of money that was destroyed. Anyway it seems less than I lost in the markets yesterday.

Well ---that's what I would do if it was my kid ----give him only hugs instead of material things for a few years and see if he really doesn't believe in money.

Ananova usually converts to British Pounds for their stories and then the amount would be about $1,500. But then again, Ananova is known to exaggerate a tad. It probably was 1,000 Italian Lira which is about 50 cents US.

Perzactly Annie ... hoping the boychild will learn the importance of fraternal forgiveness and love ... and in time the value of his father's familial responsibiilities. &;-)

So what, the governments to that to me every week.

I am not sure if he destroyed a 1,000 pounds or 1,000 lira. The "£" is confusing me. Looks like the pound symbol. But I could be wrong.
A 1,000 lira wont buy you a pack of gum, but a 1,000 pounds is about $1,500 American.

the amount would be about $1,500. I always carry about $65 in my wallet, and I think I am cash heavy.

Money is useful ... love is wealth.
It's important to me that money not be important to me. &;-)
Notice it wasn't the
boy's own money that he destroyed, it was his father's. The boy didn't earn it.
So taking the money and destroying it meant nothing to him...
Kind of like the government...
