RED CROSS 602-336-6681 FIRE INFORMATION 928-537-4536

(Eagar, Arizona-AP) -- President Bush has paid a visit to some of the 30-thousand people forced out of their homes by a wildfire in Arizona.

He told them: "A lot of people in our country are pulling for you."

He promised federal help as the state struggles to cope with its largest wildfire ever.

Bush also got an aerial look at the fire and a briefing by officials. One told him that because of dry conditions, "there's not a heck of a lot we can do."

Officials told the president they were having some luck saving homes, but a hard time stopping the 500-square-mile blaze.

Before leaving the White House today, Bush declared two Arizona counties and the Fort Apache Indian Reservation major disaster areas. That makes them eligible for federal aid and low-cost loans.

The Arizona fire is one of 18 burning in six Western states.

(Show Low, Arizona-AP) -- As firefighters in eastern Arizona try to fight a massive wildfire on one front, the blaze is kicking up on other fronts.

A fire line carved overnight is so far keeping the 351-thousand-acre blaze out of the mountain town of Show Low.

But just miles away, there's word the fire had destroyed at least 15 more homes as it swept into a portion of the small town of Heber.

That brings the total number of lost homes to at least 390.

One fire official says the blaze swept in like "a tidal wave."

The western edge of the fire is threatening a major transmission line to Phoenix, but utility officials say if the line is shut down, the power could be transferred to other routes.

On the northwestern corner of the fire, the blaze threatens a fish hatchery and ranch.

Here is a wrap-up of news regarding the Rodeo-Chedeski (Che'-da-Sky) fire raging in the White Mountains in Arizona.

Even though conditions are improving in terms of wind speed and temperatures, many structures in Show Low and points east are still under threat of destruction.

Thanks for posting the update as it is difficult to get the latest news and firefighting progress. However, I just heard on FOX news that the winds are picking up around Show Low, something the firefighters were not anticipating.

Saying prayers.

"Saying prayers"

At this point, I truly believe prayer may be the only thing the people of Show Low have left.

Another snip from the KGUN site:

SOME OF RICHARD JARENSKI'S FRIENDS FLEW THEIR SMALL PLANES OVER THEIR NEIGHOBORHOOD (in Heber) TODAY - AND REPORTED SEEING MOST HOMES STILL STANDING, AND EVEN MANY TREES UNSCATHED.
JARENSKI SAYS, "WE'RE FEELING BETTER ONLY BECAUSE WE THINK THE HOUSE IS SAFE BUT YOU CAN'T REALLY FEEL GOOD IF YOU LOOK AT EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED TO EVERYBODY ELSE."

I know, RooRoobird's post from earlier today allowed us to make that point precisely.

This could very well be a bellwether change in environmentalism is America.

I am a former resident of Arizona, Tucson to be exact. I am watching this disaster closely as I am familiar with the area.

I do appreciate any news I can get about this.

I've been cruising the Phoenix and Tucson TV and radio web sites:

KVOA.com, KOLD.com, KGUN.com, KPNX.com, KTVK.com, KTAR.com, and KPHO.com.

Most of the news is identical, but the links help.

Thank you!

I do have bookmarked The Arizona Daily Star and The Arizona Republic but their coverage is not very timely.

I do miss sunny Arizona much.

Got side tracked and really messed that one up.
Anyway, a proper yarding system will haul up all slash as well as it will prep the ground for a replant. This idea the eco are saying that you cannot harvest in any area is a lie..as is most of their foul mouthed whine is.

I've got a liberal arguing that the Sierra Club has the right prescription for making the forest fire resistant. I'm telling him that a clear cut is a fire break. GP doesn't have any problems during Oregon droughts. The Clinton roadless policy is stupid, and other such things.

So, here is what I have learned,…

The environmentalists, who are so concerned about our environment are STUPID!! He pointed out that there is no logging taking place in Arizona, Colorado, Utah and such. I pointed out that every time some person or company tries to do so, they get a lawsuit from an environmental wacko group.

They believe that the earth takes care of itself, (without us) and well, it actually does do that, But they also believe that mankind on the earth destroys this situation. Mankind on the earth actually helps the Earth to manage, given the conditions.

I was there for the results of this let the Earth take care of itself thinking in Southern California. I saw it burn, I was concerned about my own house.

The environmentalists had chosen the "California Gnat Catcher" bird to keep the Laguna Beach city from doing a controlled burn in the Laguna canyon area.

Heck, the Laguna Canyon area was the prime nesting area of the California Gnat Catcher, an endangered species. They filed a lawsuit. Endangered Species, don't ya know.

It all went up the next year. Here's a nice web site to show some of the excitement when the locality burnt down.

The Gnat Catcher was GONE!!!

A friend used to fight fires in California with CDF..
He said if resources can be applied in certain places..a large fire can be steered away....the key is having time and resources.
Was praying yesterday that the winds would shift and push the fire wall back onto the allready burned areas..
The fire crews were spraying fire retardent on homes..and prepping fire breaks.
The winds were favourable today...alot of homes were probably saved..
The images may look bad on t.v...but we may find that the crews have been succesfull.
We may start to hear good news tommorrow.

God answers prayer!

He certainly does answer prayer...
And my prayers have included the firefighters, homeowners, business owners, and wildlife there in the fire area.
Thanks so much for your input!

Here's some zero-cut logging links that might interest you:

Sierra Club supports the end of commercial logging on federal forests
Forest Guardian's "Eco-defense & zero-cut logging"
The Campaign to End Logging on Public Lands

These groups take such great pride in their lawsuits, that they even list them on theirwebsites.
