Email: The Future of Free Republic
Email | 06/25/02 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 06/25/2002 3:42:21 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

The following email is being circulated to our members by various disgruntled former FReepers:

Subject: The Future of Our Free Republic

Dear Fellow Free Republic Member,

Many of us at Free Republic are distressed by the extraordinary level of censorship that has been so obviously going on. It is very obvious that individual posts, entire threads, and the entire work of members who have been highly regarded are disappearing into a Memory Hole.

Scores of us have organized an e-mail network that is independent of the communication controls presently, and sadly, being used at our Free Republic. We have carefully documented the unmistakeable evidence that most of the posts, threads, and posters that are vaporized completely are overwhelmingly targeted for their political stance on the Right. These are not Leftwingers. These are not even Middle-of-the-Roaders. These are not disruptors. These are not foul-mouthed delinquents. These are fellow patriots on the Right who disagree with the controllers of FR on specific issues that are now hotly debated by the Right. We have documented that FR will parade before you, as if to hide all of the great posters whose work has been destroyed, a straw-man delinquent that has been banned. This is deceptive.

Treating these fellow patriots on the Right so shabbily is not right. As shabbily as those banned into the Memory Hole are being treated, the most shabbily treated of all are all of the good folks on Free Republic themselves. We came here for honest debate. Free Republic advertised itself as a Forum for honest debate. Without that honest debate...everything at Free Republic becomes shabby.

We can do much better. As a measure of how intense the simmering feelings have gotten among members on this unjustifiable use of deleting, censoring, and banning please link to the following thread. You will notice that one simple and sincere plea from one of our finest members has spontaneously touched off a prairie fire of approximately 500 posts in a mere 18 hours. If it isn't Memory Holed this thread may shoot into the thousands.

If you would like to receive anonymous updates of information concerning the hundreds of Freepers who have networked via e-mail to restore the wonderful honest debate to Free Republic, just drop an e-mail of just one or two words if you like for extreme brevity to:

StopCensoringUs@hotmail.com

And, here's that link back to the snowballing thread at FR:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/704701/posts

Thank you so much for giving your thought to this vital matter for our Internet home.

Sincerely, StopCensoringUs@hotmail.com

Black Jade always pinged me to a thread I would be interested in.

I didn't usually say anything on the thread, but I always read it.

Yes, I agree. I have read all the old FR stuff I can find. JR said he would NEVER vote for Bush. But he did and he encouraged everyone else to.

I didn't.

BS. Sure it's an article defending Bill Graham. All he said on the Nixon tapes is that liberal Jews are ruining the culture in this country. I don't think that can be disputed by reasonable people. Even Irving Kristol freely admits it.

......................

“I had scores of conversations with Mr. Nixon in which we discussed every conceivable subject. However, I cannot imagine what caused me to make those comments, which I totally repudiate. Whatever the reason, I was wrong for not disagreeing with the President, and I sincerely apologize to anyone I have offended…I don’t ever recall having those feelings about any group, especially the Jews, and I certainly do not have them now. My remarks did not reflect my love for the Jewish people. I humbly ask the Jewish community to reflect on my actions on behalf of Jews over the years that contradict my words in the Oval Office that day.”

Reverend Billy Graham

......................

I can’t believe you and Sam Francis and Billy Graham at the same time. I’ll go with Billy Graham.

LOL!

I have been just fine, TYVM.

Well, I was trying to equate the whiners who agree to JimRob's rules, get a screen name, break the rules, and then get banned to the adolescent behavior characteristic of, among others, the Klintoon Gang.

May or may not have been appropriate, but it struck me, at the time, as a good analogy.

Kind like I used to tell my children when they were 18+ and wanted to revise the rules: "This is my house. As long as you live in my house, whatever your age, you will live by my rules! If you don't like the rules, leave the house."

Fortunately, they never tested the absolute edge of that envelope! They took me at my word and, generally, behaved.

Likewise, when FReepers obey JimRob's house rules, they get to stay. When they break the rules, they have to leave. That works for me!

OMG! I said this to MY daughter, almost word for word.

Is it something that is implanted into one's brain as soon as the head is crowning?

Billy Graham apologized again for his remarks.

JUNE 26, 2002 12:59 ET

Billy Graham Apologizes for Remarks

CINCINNATI (AP) — Evangelist Billy Graham made his first face-to-face apology for anti-Jewish comments he made at the White House that were recorded 30 years ago, an aide said Wednesday.

The apology came Sunday at Graham's first meeting with Jewish leaders since tapes were released in March revealing a 1972 conversation with President Nixon in which the Southern Baptist evangelist expressed disdain for what he saw as Jewish domination of the media, aide Melany Ethridge said.

``This stranglehold has got to be broken or this country's going down the drain,'' Graham said to Nixon.

Rabbi George Barnard, president of the Cincinnati Board of Rabbis, said Graham told the small private group that his remarks were unforgivable. The group also included Michael Rapp, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Federation of Cincinnati, and Neil Bortz, president of the Jewish Federation.

``He doesn't remember them, and we accept that as fact,'' Rapp said. ``He apologized, he repudiated the anti-Jewish sentiments that were attributed to him, and he hoped his actions on behalf of the Jewish people over the years contradicts the words he spoke.''

In a statement in March, the frail, 83-year-old evangelist had said he had no memory of the meeting with Nixon, but deeply regretted the comments.

``They do not reflect my views and I sincerely apologize for any offense caused by the remarks,'' Graham said in the statement.

Jim, I found what CHICAGOFARMER was disgruntled about.

CHICAGOFARMER, you would have had more luck had you actually pinged a moderator instead of yourself.

To: CHICAGOFARMER

I noticed someone just changed the title to my article.

Who is playing with themselves so they feel more powerful. See post 28. Please forward this comment to Mr Jim Roberson and drop me a note along the way.

This Hitler side bar monitors at work again. I don't take the pen out of your hand and you should give the same respect that you want to receive.

My title. Israel says U.S. gun-control groups should considered terrorist. The Chicagofarmer

Please do not change the titles of threads when you post them. Doing so merely makes it harder for people to find the article later, and makes it more likely that there will be duplicates (which splits the discussion).

Thanks, AM

PS- Nazis because we took your title out and put the original title back?

I'm sure their comfort zone is where the sheeple are. FReepers, of course, know differently.....don't they?

Yes, they know.

Just always vote for the R. Nevermind what he does. Listen to what he says.

WE want them to have a majority again as they won in '94 when they renigged on the "Contract With America".

I almost didn't bother to vote in '96 because of Newt's pushing Clinton's Budget through. No one had read it but Newt said he had and the Democrats were told Clinton wanted them to sign it.

So they did.

I must have not been the only one mad about it.I did go vote straight Republican. I won't again.

Remember the Republicans thought they would win twentysomthing new seats in the house and somemore in the Senate?

THey broke the contract. A lot of people stayed home.

I am ashamed I voted for them in '96.

Awww ... those are the ones that are the most fun. I can post my Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. Dighton and I can bounce Masonic/Trilateral Commission/Bilderburgers/Møøse messages back and forth for hours. It's a laugh riot!

I mean, after all aren't they posted for the pure idiocy of them? You mean to tell me that some people actually BELIEVE those things?

(in my best Emily Latella voice) Never mind.

I assume you'll be voting for Democrats then. Or vote for a 3rd party. And then bitch like mad about the Republicans. Good strategy.

25 Democrats vote for a tax increase and 3 Republicans go along. Who do you complain about? The Republicans. Good answer.

Well, I'd chalk it up to the Bilderburgers. In fact, I may grill myself a couple tonight--along with some carmelized onions & a nice chunk of cheese.
