Suspect in Deputy Shooting Had Prior Record 06/24/2002
Associated Press
Authorities say the man arrested in the shooting death of a King County Sheriff's deputy has a history of assaulting officers.
King County Sheriff's officials today say the man was released June eleventh from the Washington state prison system.
Two local TV stations reported that the man served five months for assaulting a Bellevue police officer and also has prior drug, firearms, malicious mischief and resisting arrest convictions.
A roadside memorial is growing where the deputy was shot. (KING5.com Photo) The man is being held at King County Jail. Sheriff's spokesman Greg Dymerski says he could make a court appearance as soon as tomorrow.
King County Sheriff's deputy Rich Herzog was shot to death after struggling with a naked man on a busy street in Newcastle yesterday afternoon.
Herzog had worked for the sheriff's office for seven years -- nearly four with the Newcastle Police Department south of Bellevue.
* Before the officer arrived, the naked man was running around banging on the hoods of cars, ran in front of a metro bus (the bus stopped) and tried to open the door, all the while yelling profanities and that he was god/invincible.
* Officer arrived and approached the naked man with his hands up in a non-threatening manner. Officer asked the man what the problem was.
* Naked man lunged at the officer and tackled him. Before he lunged, he said, "I'm going to kill you". Witnesses said they were watching this from a very close distance.
* Officer and suspect wrestled on the ground. Apparently, suspect was a huge, muscular man. Wrestling went on for about a minute or so? Officer was trying to get his gun from the holster. Gun was knocked out of holster and spun onto the ground.
* Suspect picked up the gun... officer got up and started running. One witness said she could see fear in his eyes.
* Officer was running away with suspect less than a stride behind him. Suspect shot officer in the back at least three times (maybe more).
* Officer slipped on gravel and went down face first. Suspect emptied clip into the back of officer's head and then took off running.
* One woman witness had gone to her trunk to get her gun, but by the time she had it the suspect was running toward a crowd of people and she said she couldn't get a clear shot. She ended up using the officer's radio to make an "officer down" call. Another bystander armed witha .38 was chasing the suspect toward some apartments.
* Other officers arrive. The whole thing (from the beginning to when other police arrive) happened in less than two minutes according to witnesses.
Hopefully, I didn't leave anything out. I'm still listening to the interview.
That was the cop's first mistake. Should have just shot the goblin in the face, and worried about the consequences later. Of course, he may have lost his job, but considering what happened, that would have been a better outcome.
Score: Goblins 1, Good Guys 0.
And that's just too damn bad.
I'm still listening as Carlson is interviewing the sheriff.

"Like numerous other small and middle-sized municipalities around the state, Newcastle contracts with the sheriff's office for police services. Sheriff's Sgt. Shawn Ledford serves as police chief. Herzog, the only one of the six deputies assigned to Newcastle who was on duty Saturday, called for backup before the fatal confrontation but it was unclear when another officer arrived, Ledford said."
Another sad thing is that officer Herzog had spent 20 years in the Army Special Forces. He had worked for the sheriff's office for seven years. :(
This is just a common Orc, forced into our midst by the Master of Mordor, X42 himself and his Legions of Evil at the DNC. One wise and caring man with a Glock under his arm could have prevented this victory for the Forces of Evil.
