JENIN, West Bank, June 24 (Reuters) - Israeli forces partly destroyed a commercial building housing a bank in Jenin on Monday in what Israeli officials said was a controlled explosion of a bomb laboratory hidden in the complex. Residents said the northern part of the three-storey building, including a section of the Jenin branch of the Cairo-Amman bank, were destroyed in the explosion. Military officials said two large containers of liquids used to prepare bombs, a large quantity of explosives ready for use and parts of rocket launchers were found in the building during searches by troops that have reoccupied the West Bank town. "It was a large bomb factory," an Israeli military official told Reuters. Israeli troops fanned into Jenin and other West Bank towns last week after 26 people were killed in two suicide bombing attacks. It was the latest in a series of Israeli raids into Jenin since a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation began 21 months ago after peace negotiations deadlocked. The army said it destroyed another bomb factory in Jenin earlier on Monday in which it found two bomb belts used by suicide bombers containing 15 kilograms of explosives each and large quantities of raw explosives. A senior Israeli engineering corps officer told Reuters recently the explosives in the bomb factories are too unstable to be removed and therefore the army conducts controlled explosions of the buildings where they are housed. The officer added that most bomb factories are hidden in civilian buildings including apartment blocks.24 JUN 2002 10:45:58 Israel blows up part of Cairo-Amman bank in Jenin

Hiding bomb gactories in civilian buildings? Where are the human rights groups?
Exactly right. If there isn't a public outcry against that, then the next thing you know they'll be strapping bombs on human beings. Oh the humanity ;-)
Cairo/Amman, a sign of things to come...
Judea and Samaria belong to Israel!
Israel's guts are spilling out all over the ground right now..
They found 2 used bomb belts? They must have been a bloody mess.
Seriously, Reuters sucks.
