But through it all, he dreams of making the world a better place.

Seriously, though, just as we've had a long spell of compassion fatigue that we're not yet clear of, we're probably entering a period of argumentation fatigue that will match it in breadth and intensity.
People mostly want to be left alone, and just now, it's no easy state to achieve. So when their political triggers are tripped, they're more likely to blat out something harsh and uncompromising than usual.
