CAIRO (AP)--A political solution is the only way Palestinians can achieve statehood, but such a goal will not be obtained if Israeli security needs are not met, the French foreign minister said on Sunday.
Dominique de Villepin told reporters on the first day of his four-day Mideast visit that the situation in the region was "dangerous" and "dramatic."
Only a political solution could lead to a just settlement, he said after meeting with Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Maher, who de Villepin said he shared common views with on achieving Mideast peace.
Palestinians know they will not achieve statehood if Israel does not obtain the right to live in peace and security, de Villepin said. Israel also needed to recognize the Palestinians' basic rights.
De Villepin is expected to meet Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday. His Mideast tour also includes Israel, the Palestinian territories and Saudi Arabia.
The international community must double its efforts to attain Mideast peace and any international peace conference should have clear-cut goals, the French official said.
Before arriving in Egypt, de Villepin expressed "horror" and "revolt" at the recent suicide bombings in Jerusalem, including one that killed 19 bus passengers.
De Villepin and Maher also discussed bilateral relations, including French investments in Egypt, and the status of a French university that is expected to open next fall in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
De Villepin's Mideast trip is his first since replacing Hubert Vedrine, a Socialist, as foreign minister following recent legislative elections that gave France a center-right government.

I'm willing to bet that most Jews in France were sad to see their fellow traveler go regardless of his love of terrorists. Heck probably voted for him in the first place.

Oh, I dunno, I can think of a few other solutions. The word 'smite' comes to mind...

But isn't this a step in the right direction? This is the first time I've seen a French official say something like this. Another thing that seems to be a first, at least with what I've seen so far; the Egyptian Foreign Minister seems to agree with him. I have a feeling that no matter what the French do; certain people on here are going to keep trashing them. Let's cut them some slack, and see what happens. There is a new regime in there; maybe one that we can work with.

No I agree with your assesment. My remarks centered on how most Jews in France have been and are closely tied to the Socialists who take pleasure in bashing Israel and lauding Arafat. And of course God forbid the Jews vote for anyone BUT the socialists! Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm willing to bet that most Jews in France were sad to see their fellow traveler go regardless of his love of terroristsA strong majority of French Jews voted for Chirac this time around, dipsh*t.
To: Nonstatist; Jim Robinson
as opposed to the "the Holocaust is a detail of history" Le Pen? Yeah their vote for Chirac really indicates how seldom Jews in France vote for socialists. (sarcasm off)
P.S. Rules of the house, as put forth by Mr Robinson, forbid personal attacks. How about you act mature and kindly comply.
To: KantianBurke
Sorry to hurt your feelings. Yours such the sensitive kind, I can tell.

FR's a good place as long as things are kept clean and civil. I'd like to keep it that way though if that's too difficult for you, I suggest you start your own forum where people can act akin to your 5 year old mentality.
To: KantianBurke
The Jews in France don't get a huge kick out of seeing their fellow Jews murdered, especially women and small children. The fact that I have to explain that to you kind of backs up my friendly description of you, doesen't it?
To: KantianBurke
Everybody in France is a socialist. Your innuendos are offensive and vulgar.
To: KantianBurke
God forbid the Jews vote for anyone BUT the socialists! Stupid is as stupid doesWhere'd you go? Don't you want to defend your "clean and civil" commentary?
To: Nonstatist
Lemme get this straight. You have a problem being "offended" but you deride others for having a problem being called childish names? You generalize that all frenchmen are socialists but you get upset when one claims that all Jews in France are? Look kid don't you have summer camp to go to?
To: KantianBurke
Yawn.

Course that's your reply. You haven't anything better to say unless its an attack or an explative. Once again grow up and get off to summer camp.
To: KantianBurke
and get off to summer camp. Thanks for not getting personal. And you wonder why the moderators always ignore you?
To: Nonstatist
I'm sure with a wit like that you impress quite a number of the junior high ladies huh. Still waiting on a repsonse regarding your hypocrisy or the article I posted regarding Jewish leftists btw. Or is rational discourse beyond your childish capabilities and vocabulary?
