LONDON [MENL] -- The heir to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is said to have escaped an assassination attempt.
Iraqi opposition sources said Qusay Hussein, the younger son of Saddam, survived a car bombing. The sources said Qusay was targeted on June 9 in Baghdad when his car was booby-trapped.
The Supreme Revolutionary Council, a Shi'ite opposition group backed by Iran, said Qusay was coming out of the presidential palace and heading for the headquarters of Iraqi General Intelligence when he came under attack. Qusay was to have entered a waiting car that was rigged with a large bomb that came from a Soviet-origin rocket launcher, identified as an RPG-7.
But the council said Qusay was directed to another of eight vehicles at his service. Seconds later, the booby-trapped vehicle exploded and killed Qusay's driver and three bodyguards.

Max! Sadam might here you. We should only discuss these issues in the "cone of silence"!
Very interesting.
Knowing the power hierachy in Iraq it could be nigh anyone...including the lil' ol' lady from down the street.
Seriously speaking however it could have been the Iranian shiites, or maybe the CIA, or even maybe an internal conflict between Qusay and Uday (because Uday missed top picking by his dad since he is too much of a playboy...and a terribly ruthless one at that). It seems in Iraq there is always a lot of intrigue going on, and the moment Saddam lets go of the reigns of power there will be some turmoil as several entities vie for power...ranging from Uday and Qusay, to various military heads to even Islamic zealots trying to fill in the religious vacuum that Saddam caused (he was somewhat afraid of religious demagogues usurping his rule so he ensured religion in Iraq was seriously controlled).
And then there are the figureheads that the CIA would want to place in Iraq....and obviously the Mossad also has its ideas since Iraq has been a threat to Israel for quite some time now.
So...take your pick! One thing that is for sure is that i really would not want to be Saddam at present. I doubt he will be able to wiggle out of this fix!
