Top Senate Democrats met Hispanic leaders at the Capitol one day last week to reaffirm the party's bond with the minority group.

It was also day 407 without a confirmation hearing for Hispanic judicial nominee Miguel Estrada.

"It's a joke," said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I don't want to impugn their sincerity on wanting to help Hispanic people. But it goes both ways. Take Estrada

I heard some of this on C-SPAN. I don't understand why there is no discussion of the administration making recess appointments to the courts of appeals. Surely that's the obvious solution?

No, it's not a joke, you useless nitwit. It's the way the other side plays the game, and it's unconscionable that you and your House counterparts haven't figured that out yet.

If you let them get away with it, they will stall on these appointments until there is another Dem president. You are essentially letting them silence the conservative voice. Grow some gonads and play hardball with them for awhile. And learn to use the power of the majority when you have it. You've been outsmarted at every turn the past 10 years, and it's allowing them to suppress MY voice, MY viewpoints and MY values. And I don't like it.

We have a "new tone" of non-confrontation now in D.C.--remember? Fact is, the appointment of judges is not in the top 10 issues that Americans care about, so Democrats can probably stall about as long as they want and not get in trouble over it.

What I love is that this issue points out how hypocritical Democrats are about the "diversity" issue. You can have skin every color of the rainbow, but if you're in the least bit conservative, you don't meet the Democrat definition of "diverse".

If this guy is such a good candidate; then why don't they do something about him. All they do is give lip service.

Maybe Bush is too honorable ... I don't know, but Clinton sure did the "emergency" recess appointments! After all, the courts and judges are of ultimate importance to the Marxist Democrats - their radical agenda can NEVER be legislated into existence, and their Constitutional changes can never be passed in a Constitutional manner; their Marxist agenda can only be implemented through a judicial decree. The Democrats will accept no judge to the right of that Ruth B. Ginsberg thing.

The RINO administration is too busy promoting perverted liberal agendas. According to the paper today, the Justice Department offices were busy last week having Gay Pride Celebrations fully sanctioned by John Ashcroft and attended by his deputy, Larry Thompson, who was the keynote speaker.

Not a real solution. They would only be in office until the start of the next legislative session (Jan 2003) where the question of confirmation would come up again. For judges, that complicates the process (in fact, makes it questionable), since the Constitution says they must be appointed for life. I agree that Bush should use recess appointments for every position in the executive branch and root out the last of the Clinton brown-nosers.

"We've made substantial progress," Mr. Daschle said of negotiations during the past few weeks

Somebody should warn Tom that lying stunts your growth.
