Well, we all know that Free Republic has been the source of, or a conduit for, several romances, engagements, and weddings over the years. Tigerseye and .30carbine, LoneGreenEyeShade and DeadCultureWatch, Lazamataz and technochick99, DarthSidious and Lisa (FR name?), Slip18 and CyberLiberty, and probably many others who might be too modest to share their stories. Tonight, slugbug and I have the pleasure of sharing the announcement of our engagement with all of our friends, family, acquaintances, and fellow FR addicts.
We’ve been through so very much together. Laughter, joy, sadness, loss, puppies, presents, disagreement, shock, surprises, play, obligations, conflicts, discussions, education, fun, jewelry, jealousy, reaffirmation, adventures in chaperoning, role-modeling, and so much more. Our relationship has survived, developed, and grown. In that time, you helped me to become a more considerate person, reminded me of what a man’s duties are to a woman, helped me be a better teacher, you have brought me back to church, made me want to be a better person, and a million other little things that you may not even know about, but have touched me deeply and made me love you more and more.
You mean so very much to me, for so many reasons. You make me respect you for intelligence, your grace, your openness, and your friendliness. You didn’t even get scared away when I taught you how to handle firearms, told you about my recklessly misspent youth, or taught you how to ride a motorcycle! You are given my obedience because your desires are fair, meaningful, and right. You only ask for what is best. I honor you for your devotion to your family, for teaching future nurses, even for your patriotism you so sweetly express in your décor, and for somehow putting up with me for the past few years. You amaze me, and never fail to make me want to make you happy.
Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?
After a long pause that had me sweating bullets, my new fiancee said "Yes"! Woo-hoo!
