"I have in my hand a list of 67 known Communists employed at the State Department."

The quote may not be exact and the number certainly isn't, because over time it fluctuated from as low as 39 to more than 200, depending on the speaker's mood, his blood alcohol level at the time and the enthusiasm of his audience.

The only problem is that the Archives of the Soviet Union when opened in 1989 proved that McCarthy was way wrong. There were far more communist spies in the State Department than Joe ever claimed to know about. A decade after the Soviet Union fell we were still finding them in our FBI, CIA, and State Department. Bet your Hanssen in the FBI there were spies just like Joe said their were.

All Joe Mcarthy proved is that a drunken lout of a Republican is far less gullible than stone sober Democrats.

I think it was was either Abraham Lincoln or Joe Stalin who said, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, can fool all of the people some of the time, but you can fool all of the Denocrats all of the time."

And of course you can.
